Goa has well over 25 amazing beaches ranging from the full-of-life party destinations to the serene and peaceful ones. As a general assumption, the beaches of North Goa are considered to be more happening and lively than those of South Goa which are quieter and more secluded.

Economic Scene - Study Rethinks Importance of Kindergarten Teachers - NYTimes.com - 0 views

  • By junior high and high school, children who had excellent early schooling do little better on tests than similar children who did not — which raises the demoralizing question of how much of a difference schools and teachers can make.
  • “We don’t really care about test scores. We care about adult outcomes.”
  • Classes with 13 to 17 students did better than classes with 22 to 25. Peers also seem to matter.
  • ...3 more annotations...
  • Good early education can impart skills that last a lifetime — patience, discipline, manners, perseverance
  • teachers. Some are highly effective. Some are not. And the differences can affect students for years to come.
  • Schools can also make sure standardized tests are measuring real student skills and teacher quality, as teachers’ unions have urged.
  •
"A Tennessee experiment found that some teachers were able to help students learn vastly more than other teachers. The effect largely disappeared by junior high, based on test scores. Yet for the the students in adulthood, it was discovered that the legacy of kindergarten had re-emerged. Students who had learned much more in kindergarten were more likely to go to college than students with otherwise similar backgrounds."

QR Codes in Education: A Burgeoning Narrative | JAMES MICHIE - 7 views

  •
"Since I published a short audioBoo (click the link or scan the QR Code on the right) offering my thoughts on how QR Codes could be used for learning, there has been a significant buzz about QR Codes on Twitter and in the blogosphere. The Innovators 12: Stephen Heppell - 5 views

  • Stephen Heppell: "I guess I've sort of answered that, but let me say this in closing. We seem to have an education system built on 'met before' practice. Children in the exam room hoping there will be no surprises, teachers outside hoping they have prepared the children for everything. In practice we are in a world where we have not met before any of the current challenges: global warming, economic collapse, etc. And when these unexpected things happen, all folk seem to be able to do is carry on as before: the banks paying bonuses, people burning fuel etc. "To solve the 21st century's problems will take all our ingenuity, innovation, creativity and delight. And will need every single learner. The only certainty is that to carry on doing the 'old' way would be a reckless and foolish gamble. That is why I can be so certain that learning will and can change...

Minds-On Toys - Kits - 6 views

But perhaps the rarest thing about Digi-Comp is the combination of hands-on and minds-on fun it affords. It definitely still has things to teach*, like Boolean logic and problem-solving... and it's rewarding to build and use. That's why Minds-On Toys decided to reintroduce it in an affordable kit format, with a thorough and professional revamp of the original documentation.
