This a great guide for teaching some elementary principles (ages 9-11) of poster (graphic) design. It covers topics such as layout, color, text, and use of images. It could be used as for whole class discussion or as an independent task for students with good comprehension skills. A rubric for visual information literacy component of a larger project could easily be constructed from this activity.

Exploring the Secret Life of Trees is designed to help 3rd - 5th grade students gain an appreciation of trees, observe trees in their everyday lives, and develop an interest in discovering more about trees.
