A federal court ruled Monday that the methane rule adopted under the Obama administration must be upheld by the current administration. The US Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia ruled that the Trump administration had no right to delay the rule that limits methane emissions from gas and oil operations.

MillerCoors used new tools and irrigation initiatives, along with increased brewing efficiencies, that helped the brewing giant reduce its water consumption by 15 billion gallons in 2016, the company announced today. Wet weather also contributed to the 2016 reduction, the company acknowledged. MillerCoors used 16.9% less water compared to 2015 - equivalent to more than 500 million kegs of beer.

Hershey has redesigned its display cases in such a way that by 2025, they will have reduced packaging material by 25 million pounds, the company says. The new display case is a one-piece design with no cover packaging. It also eliminates the center divider. With these and other changes, the cases use 32% less material, Hershey says. The cases also use about 62% less time to open and set up.

General Mills now sources 69% of its top ten priority ingredients from sustainable sources, the company announced this week. Nestle's half-liter bottles of water sold in the US under the Deer Park, Pure Life, Poland Spring, Ice Mountain, Ozarka, Arrowhead and Zephyrhills brands now feature the new How2Recycle label. The label reminds consumers to replace the cap before recycling the empty bottle.

The Rainforest Action Network claims that PepsiCo's Palm Oil Action Plan Progress Report, released last week, is basically a sham. PepsiCo must begin enforcing environmental violations throughout its supply chain, or RAN intends to continue negative PR efforts against the company and its financial supporters.

According to the report, rising environmental concerns and growing public awareness about eco-friendly products are expected to drive the rapid growth of sustainable packaging market over the forecast period. In particular, consumer demand for sustainable food product packaging is projected to be a large driver.

In 2016, Hershey Entertainment & Resorts had environmental achievements that included saving 12.2 million gallons of water, recycling more than 17,000 pounds of paper for charity, and recycling over 23,000 gallons of cooking oil, according to the company's latest CSR report.
