Buying words in order to submit them for assignments falls under this definition.
  • PLAGIARISM — representing the words or ideas of another person or presenting someone else's words, ideas, artistry or data as one's own, or using one’s own previously submitted work.

Submitting the words of another person and claiming them as your own falls under this category.

Jeff worked at the CDC in the Division of Global Migration and Quarantine. His thoughts on the current Ebola crisis and national reactions are fascinating. See a paper that he co-authored; Waterman SH, Escobedo M, Wilson T, Edelson PJ,, Bethel JW, Fishbein DB. A new paradigm for quarantine and public health activities at land borders: opportunities and challenges. Public Health Reports 2009; 124(2):203-12.

Transmission | Ebola Hemorrhagic Fever | CDC - 0 views

  • Ebola is not spread through the air or by water, or in general, by food.
    • Jon Dorbolo

This statement from the CDC confirms what Dr. Jeff Bethel (OSU) told me; that the Ebola is not airborne as is the flu and SARS.
  • When an infection does occur in humans, the virus can be spread in several ways to others. Ebola is spread through direct contact (through broken skin or mucous membranes in, for example, the eyes, nose, or mouth) withblood or body fluids (including but not limited to urine, saliva, sweat, feces, vomit, breast milk, and semen) of a person who is sick with Ebolaobjects (like needles and syringes) that have been contaminated with the virusinfected fruit bats or primates (apes and monkeys)
    • Jon Dorbolo

Ebola is spread by direct contact with an infected person's bio (e.g. body fluids). This is an important distinction that many people I talk to are not aware of.
  •
Much of the virulent speculation among the anxiety-based media of pundit TV and Talk Radio involves false claims that Ebola is transmitted airborne or ungrounded speculations that it could easily become so. They should check the science before leaping into political delirium.

Jocelyn Bell Burnell - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia - 0 views

  • The paper announcing the discovery of pulsars had five authors. Hewish's name was listed first, Bell's second. Hewish was awarded the Nobel Prize, along with Martin Ryle, without the inclusion of Bell as a co-recipient. Many prominent astronomers expressed outrage at this omission,[10] including Sir Fred Hoyle.

The Shadow Scholar - The Chronicle of Higher Education - 0 views

  • You would be amazed by the incompetence of your students' writing. I have seen the word "desperate" misspelled every way you can imagine. And these students truly are desperate.
    • Jon Dorbolo

Tomar's writing strategy in this article and his book is to disparage students as incompetent, then to lay the blame on the educational system. I am very willing to take his criticisms of education seriously. I do not agree that he succeeds in exonerating himself from his own fractured character.
    • Jon Dorbolo

A quote from Tomar's article. Certainly not my assessment of OSU students!
  •
Tomar turned this article into a book and got some publicity from television. Whatever one thinks of his life choices, I think that his criticism of American education is worth considering.
  •
Tomar writes; "I live well on the desperation, misery, and incompetence that your educational system has created. Granted, as a writer, I could earn more; certainly there are ways to earn less. But I never struggle to find work. And as my peers trudge through thankless office jobs that seem more intolerable with every passing month of our sustained recession, I am on pace for my best year yet. I will make roughly $66,000 this year. Not a king's ransom, but higher than what many actual educators are paid."
  •
This article is the forerunner of the 2012 book, The Shadow Scholar, by Dave Tomar. All educators should read this.
