Why banning technology is not the answer - The Learner's Way - 0 views

  •
There is something about human nature that draws us towards dichotomous patterns of thought; an all or nothing, us or them style of thinking in which an option is either good or it is bad. In such a model complexity and subtle nuance with multiple possible outcomes and routes towards a goal are ignored. The field of educational technology is one where such a pattern is evident and recent ban on technology by a Sydney school shows how this style of analysis can have a significant impact on student learning.

These are questions we have long struggled with but with but it seems that in the current times we might need to rethink how we answer these questions.

"Submit the Documentary exposes the most epic struggle in the digital, Internet age: cyberbullying. Cyberbullying is bullying by means of electronic technology committed through email, instant messaging, mobile applications, social media, chat rooms, and blogs or through messages and images sent through a cell phone. Because of the anonymity, kids who never thought of being a bully are becoming harassers. FreePoverty - Knowing Helps - 0 views

  •
The goal of many organizations is to end poverty. We intend to do the same, and we want you to contribute. By testing your knowledge on the map shown above, each correct answer means you will be donating 10 cups of water. We chose water as our primary source of donation, because it is something that all human beings need to survive. And around the world, there are many, too many people who don't have access to clean drinking water; thus causing various illnesses. With your contribution, we may just be one step closer to ending poverty.

About Windows to the Universe - 0 views

  •
Windows to the Universe is a user-friendly learning system covering the Earth and Space sciences for use by the general public. Windows to the Universe has been in development since 1995. Our goal is to build an internet site that includes a rich array of documents, including images, movies, animations, and data sets, that explore the Earth and Space sciences and the historical and cultural ties between science, exploration, and the human experience. Our site is appropriate for use in libraries, museums, schools, homes, and the workplace. Students and teachers may find the site especially helpful in their studying (and teaching!) Earth and Space sciences. Because we have users of all ages, the site is written in three reading levels approximating elementary, middle school and high school reading levels. These levels may be chosen by using the upper button bar of each page of the main site.

A Global Map of Human Impacts to Marine Ecosystems | NCEAS - 0 views

  •
Wow! I live in the Pacific Northwest of Canada, and Georgia Strait shows greater impact than the California Coast. Southern Nova Scotia is a global hot spot. It would make an interesting project to get students working on what factors are contributing to such a high rate of impact off our coasts and what form that is taking. That should be presented to our provincial government as they consider lifitnf the moratorium on offshore drilling.
