  • I'd argue there's a lot of content on Pinterest -- even if it's not a collection of 3000 word blog posts. Sometimes images, even with minimal textual content, can be exactly what people are looking for. Not always, and sometimes we get it wrong, but it's certainly an option.

  • Merging or splitting sites doesn't result in something you can exactly determine ahead of time. You're essentially creating a new site.

Does search consoles "target audience in:" has any effect? : TechSEO - 0 views

  • All you do with that doing is to very strongly hint us that your content is more relevant to users in the region you've set. This may help a little in that particular region, but won't affect your site in other regions.

How to Get Your Brand in Google's Knowledge Graph Without a Wikipedia Page - 0 views

  • Over the years I have been tracking knowledge panels and the Knowledge Graph API, there has never been a direct correlation between Wikipedia articles and Knowledge Graph presence
  • Google expanded the presence of knowledge panels for brands significantly.Wikipedia is not the only cited source (far from it, in fact!).There are hundreds of additional cited sources (237 in this dataset).Almost one in five cited sources in knowledge panels is not Wikipedia.Wikipedia’s share of knowledge panels dropped by a third.Knowledge panels with no cited source jumped by almost 50%.
  • after Wikipedia, Crunchbase, LinkedIn and Bloomberg, the drop-off is very sharp
  • ...3 more annotations...
  • If you aren’t notable enough for Wikipedia (which you probably aren’t – see below), you can very usefully start by optimizing your organization profiles on Crunchbase, LinkedIn, and Bloomberg.
  • I checked the URL structures for all pages cited by Google for the “big three”, and they are all 100% company profile pages
  • Your aim is to prove to Google that your brand is notable… but the barrier is lower than it is for Wikipedia. You are building a case and presenting it to an unbiased machine rather than to human editors at Wikipedia.

Is Your Google My Business Listing Getting Filtered? - Sterling Sky Inc - 0 views

  • If you have multiple locations for the same business, Google will often show the one with the highest relevance and filter others.
  • In some cases, the filter causes listings to be completely removed from the Local Finder results unless you zoom in
  • if your listing is too similar (based on criteria above) to a listing that outranks you, it will cause your listing to rank much lower because Google is trying to “diversify” the search results.
  • ...1 more annotation...
  • The listing that has the most ranking authority for that particular keyword is the one that will rank.  For example, one attorney ranks for “personal injury attorney palmdale” but a different attorney ranks for “auto accident attorney palmdale” (both are using the same address). Because a listing is filtered for one keyword does not mean that it will be filtered for other keywords.

Leveraging Wikidata To Gain A Google Knowledge Graph Result - Search Engine Land - 0 views

  • I immediately started filing feedback reports in the SERP advising Google of the incorrect logo. I did this every day for a week, and Google finally updated the logo element with the correct image.

Protect your Google Drive folders by setting permissions | G Suite Tips - 0 views

  •
"One word of caution if you have already set up a folder hierarchy - changing folder permissions will change the general permissions of any sub-folder and document that has not been specifically set. To clarify, if you have documents or sub-folders that have had general permissions changed from the default setting, the permissions will not change, and any individual sharing settings will be remain the same. But any sub-folders and documents that have not been specifically set will inherit the new higher level folder setting. If you are working on a folder hierarchy that is already in place, we recommend starting with the lowest level folder and working up so that permissions are specifically set before you set the top level."

SEO Professionals: How to Get Started with Wikidata - 0 views

  • On December 14, 2014, Google announced the shutdown of Freebase -- Wikidata's strongest competitor. As they did, Google also provided powerful support by migrating all of Freebase's data over to Wikidata
  • Along with structured data, Wikipedia, and a handful of others, Wikidata is a go-to source for building this information
  • Do not use multiple accounts to edit the same Wikidata listing.
  • ...10 more annotations...
  • Create a strong user page
  • Create at least one backup account
  • If you're new, it's a good rule of thumb to add almost no data that you can't back up with a reference or source link
  • description field in the listing. This should be as short and concise: five to ten words is an ideal target.
  • Unfortunately, the community works on predefined lists of properties and entries. This means that if there's no property existing and you want to add one, you'll need to go to the community to discuss its creation.
  • if there's a Wikidata article on something, you can probably assume it'll be usable as a property too; this knowledge can sometimes be used creatively to make a listing work for you.
  • If the company has an image on their Wikipedia page, be sure to include that on the Wikidata listing - logos are prime real estate in the knowledge graph. Format the entry using the property "logo image" and the filename only
  • Step 1: Import As Much As You Can From Wikipedia
  • In cases where I reference an non-Wiki database source, I also add a reference that includes a URL to the original.
  • Apple, my fallback, has an exceptional Wikidata page that I skim through whenever I'm building a company page. In particular, it lists a wealth of†databases. This helps me smooth out my entry quite a bit, and gives me some final ideas.

Wikidata 101 - Search Engine Land - 0 views

  • Wikidata contains entities, or Items, like “London” or “Facebook.” Each Item is assigned a unique identifier starting with a Q, like Q454390 for the TI-99. At the top of each Item is a label, description and aliases:
  • take a look at Items similar to the one you’d like to edit, and note the statement Properties used plus the kinds of Values and Qualifiers commonly accepted for those Properties.
  • My top recommendations for Properties that Organizations should supply/populate are headquarters location, official website, image or logo image, described at URL, Facebook ID, Twitter username, inception, industry and manufacturer (of).
  • ...1 more annotation...
  • Wikidata insists upon entries being about notable concepts or material entities (people, places and things). For the most part, that means it is mentioned in the Wikipedia or you can describe the entity using third-party, publicly available resources

Building Your Own Link Profile Based on Google's Data - Go Fish Digital - 0 views

  • Begin downloading your backlinks from Search Console on a weekly basis and make it a habit.
  • Every now and then, Google rotates a small batch of links into your sample files. If you keep downloading them for long enough, you’ll start seeing a bigger picture of exactly what your link profile looks like.

Does the Service Area in Google My Business Impact Ranking? - Sterling Sky Inc - 0 views

  • The service area does not currently impact ranking for SAB’s. This means that you need to get creative to grow your business with GMB outside of your physical city. Ranking factors are in a constant state of change so this all may change one day
  • If moving isn’t an option, I would focus on optimizing the website, and the GMB landing page in particular, for long-tail search terms. Onsite optimization has a direct impact on local pack/finder rankings and long-tail keywords, which are less competitive.

  • a 404 is a 404, it's always been like this. Why would a search engine want to index the contents of something you're saying doesn't exist? It's not a matter of interpretation, it's a clear signal. 404s are perfectly fine & have a place on *every* website.

The Power of "Is": A Featured Snippet Case Study - Moz - 0 views

  • it was easier for us to gain featured snippets from our blog or our glossary pages
  • “Is” seemed to be the big trigger word for winning featured snippets.
  • Our on-page copy would have the H2 with the keyword (e.g. What is Employee Orientation?) and then the paragraph copy would answer that question.
  • ...1 more annotation...
  • We were only able to grab featured snippets with new content that we created. Also, when we updated large amounts of content on a few pages that had featured snippets, we lost them. We made sure to not touch the sections of the page that the snippet was pulling from, but we still lost the snippet (some have come back, but some are still gone).
