Depends on what midi controller and what you are wanting to control. If you are using something like a Korg nano, then there is a driver you have to down load and then you have to map the sounds.

@Rob - I tried your steps and was able to record but got stuck in the actual mapping process.
In the menu bar of the upper right hand corner of ableton where the metronome is, there is also the launch quantization menu. (it's the one on the far right end...) that basically tells ableton how...
I believe it's because ableton is trying to quantize the tracks, try going into 'options' and disabling the 'launch quantization enabled' option. I think that might be how ya do it...

It still wouldn't sync up, so we looked into whether or not there is a driver for the launch pad. We went to the website for the device, and found the driver Novation USB driver 2.5. It worked!
