Pipelines Explained: How Safe are America's 2.5 Million Miles of Pipelines? - 0 views

  •
This article explains the pros and cons of oil pipelines in the united states. It details costs for maintaining the 2.5 million miles of pipe and cleanup when these pipes fail. The environmental concerns of proponents, and the casualties caused by their inevitable demise through corrosion due to weather and age. This article sites information and data gathered from federal and private environmental agency's and groups outlining the risks of Americas aging and extensive energy pipelines. The scary part is how little oversight on the safety and maintenance these company's who advocate for the safety of these pipes are given. While a slew of federal and state agencies oversee some aspect of America's pipelines, the bulk of government monitoring and enforcement falls to a small agency within the Department of Transportation called the Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration. The agency is understaffed and lacks the resources to adequately monitor the millions of miles of pipelines over which it does have authority.

School to Prison Pipeline - 1 views

  •
Illustrates some facts regarding the 'school to prison pipeline' metaphor. More schools are adopting policies that make students interact with police more and more. This then causes students to be more likely to go to prison.

I don't think that interacting with police is what causes students to be more likely to go to prison. If the police are in the schools and positively interacting with students, I feel that the students are made to be more aware of their decisions. However, if it is one of the schools in a very poor community that has a high crime rate and a lot of drugs, then those kids are prison bound no matter if they interact with police or not. I am not saying all those kids are bad, but the bad eggs are heading that way regardless.

North Dakota Pipeline draws controversy, social justice concerns - 1 views

  •
This article is mostly a run down on the basic information regarding the protest at Standing Rock. It also shows how important the land is and what the pipeline could damage.

This article does go into detail a bit more than the news covers. I also wonder since POTUS has started renegotiating the pipeline, what will happen with the protesters this time? Hopefully, they will find an alternative route not so close to the land in question.

Thank you for sharing this. I had heard the the pipeline was going through now and wanted to read more information on this.

    Good information on this.

Nearly 140,000 gallons of diesel mix spill from broken pipeline in Iowa - 0 views

  •
Work crews are cleaning up a spill of nearly 140,000 gallons of a diesel mix from a broken pipeline in north-central Iowa. The Mason City Globe Gazette reports that the leak from a 12-inch Magellan Midstream Partners pipe was discovered around 8 a.m. Wednesday north of Hanlontown. Another pipeline breach sends 140,000 gallons into the ecosystem of north-central Iowa. These breaches are all to common and the consequences are extremely high for a resource that in my opinion will be obsolete within the next 50yrs. Why are we still using it?

Trump Revives Keystone Pipeline Rejected by Obama - 0 views

This pipeline being built and the effects it will have left on the environment is what I do not dare to imagine. While global warming and climate change is such a crucial thing to focus on right now, Donal Trump continues to push everything worse.

Trump Touts Executive Orders, Preparation for Health Care Repeal After First Week - 4 views

  •
This article briefly cover the changes that the new president has made in his first week in office.
  •
It does list all of the big-hitting topics in the news lately. The repeal of AHA, the TPP, the pipeline, and many other first week orders. I don't recall of any other president making so many drastic changes or attempts at drastic changes this early in their term.
  •
I worry about how fast he is doing things and that he isn't really thinking through consequences. I'm not a big fan of Obamacare, but when faced with that or nothing, I'd stick with it, at least until something better can be found to make sure everyone has access to affordable health care.
