Equal Pay - 5 views

  •
Women deserve equal pay. On average, they are paid less than their male counterparts. It effects their spending power and what women receive in their social security.

This is a really good article because it also talks about how race affects the pay gap. Most articles I find on the topic ignore how non-white women are paid less than white women. The struggle for mothers attempting to reenter the workplace is horrible.
  •
A reality unfortunately, in our society. It is almost hilarious how you read on all papers when you are hired :"we are an equal opportunity employer, no discrimination of any kind..." and yet the first thing you notice is the pay you get in comparison with a man who is less qualified than you but...he is a man. And, as kat2222004 pointed, very hard for mothers to reenter the work field, the mother is not trusted anymore to be a reliable employee.
  •
Really good article. I saw this as I was choosing a topic to discuss in our discussion last week. I 100% agree that women should receive the same pay as men. Women are such hard workers whether it is in the work force, or for those who have to maintain a family as well.
  •
The 77 cent claim has been repeatedly refuted because it does not accommodate for the fact that women are more likely to choose lower paying jobs or jobs with benefits. Men on average work longer hours. Single, childless women in major cities earn more than men. Women obtain 58% of college degrees. Women are less likely to go into STEM jobs. Also statistics are easily manipulated. Watch TJ explain the wage gap https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KWAlg48fNwE

I definitely agree with this article. Even if some people like to think this isn't a problem it definitely is. For men and women in the same field regardless of what that field is men often get the higher income than women do. My mother is a major example of this and often talks about how the men in the same department as her make more money even when they produce less work that generally isn't that good. On top of that my mother works the same amount of hours and even more than average in a given week yet still doesn't come close to the pay gap. Of course, there may be inconsistency in statistics but it is definitely still an issue to be aware of because it still exists.

Gender Inequality Index (GII) | Human Development Reports - 1 views

  •
This website is about gender inequality especially towards women. It shows how women are treated in certain areas and how negative it is towards girls. It states how men have better choices and women don't really get a choice. Inequality is a big problem and many people don't see it, and it aims towards women and how they still to this day don't have equality.

Education Is the Key to a Better Quality of Life for Women - 0 views

  •
Education is the key to a better quality life in America. This is particularly important for our country's women because, though women have dominated our workforce, they are often set back by poor life decisions, personal crisis, or just do not have the resources available to succeed. The improvement of education will be a joint effort for everyone involved, including the individual, community, and government leadership.

Even though African Americans are only 12.6% of the population, they received 30% of the 1.2 million abortions in 2008 (latest available statistics), killing 360,000 Black babies at a rate of nearly 1,000 per day.

This article goes over why black women are 3 times more likely to have an abortion. In addition to that, it goes over why Planned Parenthood's are strategically place in black poverty neighborhoods.

This link shows everything wrong with our world right now. I am constantly outraged by the wage gap, and how employers are allowed to get away with it. It blows my mind that so many people claim that men and women are CURRENTLY treated the same way, when clearly they are not. p.s i actually book marked this link on my computer, that way i can send it to anyone who disagrees.
  •
This has been an ongoing issue for us women since day one. inequality in employment, wages and opportunities is extremely unjust. I think the more its brought to the surface and the more we show we still haven't forgotten, we will eventually get somewhere. Just like when we all came together for women's rights on inauguration day :)
  •
Women's right are changing. Women's need equal opportunities in workplace and education. This link is showing us how unfair is society with females. Hopefully in the future everybody is going to be equal and we will have the same opportunities.
  •
It seems that for all of the changes that have been made, a lot still needs to be done. There is no excuse for our country or any other country to still be dealing with unequal rights for women. The violence is disgusting, as well as discrimination and unequal pay. Thank you for sharing.
  •
As a woman, I believe we have definitely come a long way. However, I believe we are not completely equal to males yet, which we should be. More changes need to be done.
  •
The fact that women and other people in our country and other countries have to even fight to be equal is disgusting. We are all the same and deserve to be treated the same. The fight must continue.
  •
It is crazy to think that in 2017 that we as humans can't treat one another the same as you would want to be treated yourself. I am not a woman but I do have a wife and daughter that I would hate/despise if they were treated any less than myself for any reason.

A New Tune on Women's Rights in the Arab World - The New York Times - 2 views

  •
As much as our women's rights laws have changed in the past years, other countries have not come as far. Some countries, however, are moving small strides towards better days for women. Lebanon's parliament has repealed their "rape law" which allows rapists to escape imprisonment if they marry their victim. Passing the law is just the first step though, applying the law is going to take time and effort.
  •
This article was quite informative and tragic to read, seeing as women are still being treated as less in other countries. While the United States harbors its own cases of gender inequality, women in other countries are faced with injustices they cannot fight on behalf of misogynistic views. While feminism has grown largely within the United States, it seems to lack intersectionalism, which excludes the rights of women in countries ran by a patriarch. I think that this article displays the wrong in the world that can be acknowledged by men women, feminists and non-feminists.

Eleanor Roosevelt and the Women's Movement - 0 views

  •
Starting with Eleanor Roosevelt movement women have came along way, we see how much women had to suffer to get where they are today. Women had to fight for the same rights men had when it comes to pay or education. They still face issues with being treated unfairly today, such as certain job where men say that some work isn't for a women but only for men to do.
  •
Eleanor Roosevelt was a good lady and deserves a lot of credit for what she did for the women of America.

Gender Bias in the workplace - 2 views

  •
This article tackles the gender bias topic in the workplace. They made the video to show the dramatic differences in the way men and women are viewed for the same characteristics or behaviors.
  •
It's really sad to see the difference in how men and women are treated in the work place. Women are viewed differently because of their gender and not by the job that they perform.
  •
Reading this shows how sad the equality is between men and women. It bases it off of gender instead of performance which is not right at all, especially with the women.

Shockingly High Rates of Violence Against Women - 2 views

  •
The United Nations conducted an analysis on violence against women across the globe. The devastating results show that violence against women is a continuing issue in societies throughout the world.
  •
Wow! This is a very disturbing article. "The United Nations' main health agency, the World Health Organization, found that 38 percent of women who are murdered are killed by their partners."... and some Countries like Nigeria allow men to beat their wives under certain circumstances??? It really puts things into perspective when you start seeing the numbers. I am writing my paper on child sex trafficking and this really hits home for all of it. How sad
