Looking to learn a new language this summer? Then give this list a good look. The folks at Universitiesandcolleges.org have created "The Master List of Free Language Learning Resources," which pulls together materials found across a range of different media. Here, you'll find podcasts, open courses, iphone apps, and more. And the list notably includes our ever-popular collection of Free Foreign Language Lesson Podcasts, which will teach you about 40 different languages. Just download the podcasts to your computer or mp3 player and you'll be learning new languages on the go, at no cost.

This website is designed to aid students in vocabulary memorization by decreasing the time required to look up a large list of words. It includes a comprehensive dictionary that allows for fast and quick lookup of words. Words can simply be copied and pasted into the text-area and our parser will extract the words, search them, and then display them. It also includes a feature for downloading your word list as a word document. You can email the list to yourself or look up synonyms. Part of speech is also included.

Many of the sites listed here were not available when we did our last list; although longevity is a mark of pride online, it is difficult for companies set up in the 1990s to reinvent themselves quickly enough to take advantage of new technologies. Although of course rapid change brings casualties too: it's possible that with all the economic turbulence going on that some of the sites here won't be around in a year from now, or that their now free services will have become paid-for. That doesn't diminish their usefulness, though; it just underlines their determination to survive.
