Connecting with Experts in the Real World: Educators Learn to Teach Science From the Pr... - 0 views

  •
"Thankfully, the public understanding of science is part of the core mission for many science centers, zoos and aquaria, botanical gardens, and natural history museums. These institutions, collectively known as informal science centers, are taking a leadership role in ensuring that students get quality instruction in the sciences. Perhaps the most exciting programs coming out of these institutions are initiatives related to the professional development of new teachers (or teachers new to teaching science). These programs mentor novice science teachers in inquiry-based approaches to science learning. They also provide ongoing support and access to experts in various scientific disciplines."

Just found this web tool that allows teachers to take videos and add questions, which students answer, at specific points in the video. These are created as assignments and allow the teacher to track who completed the assignment, as well as how well they did and/or the number of students who answered a question correctly or incorrectly. Teachers can use their own screencasts, as well as videos from YouTube and other locations. Best of all it is supposed to work on ALL devices!

The one place to organize, present and share knowledge. Currently, teachers are using Edcanvas for: 1. Lesson planning: Creating lessons and collecting all the resources in one place. 2. Teaching: Presenting the lesson in class. 3. Professional development: Sharing the lesson with other teachers. As this is an alpha, there will be bugs here and there. We're working hard to fix them and adding new stuff every day... and often multiple times a day. So please report any bugs you find and check back regularly.

10 Technology Enhanced Alternatives to Book Reports - 1 views

  •
"The most dreaded word in school reading for students: book reports. Teachers assign them, viewing them as a necessary component of assessing reading comprehension. Book reports can be a contributing factor to 'readicide'. "Read-i-cide n: The systematic killing of the love of reading, often exacerbated by the inane, mind-numbing practices found in schools." http://stenhouse.com/html/readicide.htm. So, how can we as teachers continue to monitor our students understanding of reading material without killing the love of reading? Enter technology. Technology can help bring some excitement and creativity to the traditional book report while still displaying students understanding of reading."

Technology Integration Matrix - 0 views

  •
"The Technology Integration Matrix (TIM) illustrates how teachers can use technology to enhance learning for K-12 students. The TIM incorporates five interdependent characteristics of meaningful learning environments: active, constructive, goal directed (i.e., reflective), authentic, and collaborative (Jonassen, Howland, Moore, & Marra, 2003). The TIM associates five levels of technology integration (i.e., entry, adoption, adaptation, infusion, and transformation) with each of the five characteristics of meaningful learning environments. Together, the five levels of technology integration and the five characteristics of meaningful learning environments create a matrix of 25 cells as illustrated below. "
