NumberNut.com is a part of Rader's family of educational games and activities. Number Nut provides some great games with which students can practice and develop their math skills. Unlike many other Math game websites, Number Nut includes some word problems that force students to problem solve rather than just recall information from rote memorization.

This site offers an introduction to mathematics and its variety of topics. It's not just for kids, it's for everyone (even if you aren't a number nut).

Pennsylvania Dept of Ed. archives speeches from annual conferences by experts. The archives include the video coverage, PowerPoints, and transcripts. The archives date back several years, so teachers have instant access to a number of experts on relevant topics (2012 - grading + assessment)

There are numerous videos that are history related. This site would have some materials that would possibly work to introduce science topics as well. There are a number of timeline.tv links about disease, plague, medicine of medieval times, etc. Very interesting material.

Shmoop, a publisher of digital educational resources, has added pre-algebra to its list of free learning guides. The online Pre-Algebra Learning guides contain hundreds of topics with succinct explanations, diagrams, interactive examples, practice problems, and real-world applications. I have often wondered if there was a tool to organize my own library of books and I think th is may be it.

There is a free trial version of the materials in the National Library of virtual manipulatives. Math topics Numbers and Operations, Algebra, Geometry, Measurement and Data Analysis & Probablity are covered. I did not come across anything asking for money so I a not certain there is a cost. There are tons of manipulatives to access from each of the above categories. This site is associated with the Uta State University.

Today's math curriculum is teaching students to expect -- and excel at -- paint-by-numbers classwork, robbing kids of a skill more important than solving problems: formulating them. At TEDxNYED, Dan Meyer shows classroom-tested math exercises that prompt students to stop and think.

Yodio enables students to create and participate in individual or collaborative digital storybooks using a mobile phone. For example: a class of 1st graders on a trip to the zoo creates a collaborative digital sotrybook with Yodio concerning what they learned about the animals on the trip. Each parent chaperone has a group of four or five students, who take turns calling in to the yodio phone number (on the parent chaperone's phone) and recording their observations about an animal, perhaps even capturing the animal's sound. Students also take a picture of their chosen animal with the cell phone. Back at school, the students log in to Yodio and create a digital sotrybook combining their recorded narrations and photos.

This site links to the American Museum of Natural History. There are a number of topics to select and then learn about. It looks very engaging.
