Allows teachers to turn basic cell phones into classroom performance clickers at no charge. Studetns can send poll responses and ideas achieved through bdrainstorming directly to an interactive webpage. An example of the use may be that when the students walk into class the teacher has a question on the IWB that students will need to respond to as their activating strategy for the lesson.

This site can be used for information gathering. Teachers can design instructional activities to help students learn how to use their cell phones as an anytime, anywhere research and information-gathering device. For example, while on a trip to historical Williamsburg, Virginia, a teacher tells his class to send any questions that occur to them to the free information site ChaCha. One student wonders why a certain building was constructed in such an odd way. No tour guides are around to help, so he calls 1-800-chacha, asks his question, and gets a text-message answer back in minutes.

Flickr allows students to take pictures and send them to a private space online. For example: A homework assignment for 4th grade mathematics students requires students to take pictures of different polygons they see in their everyday lives and instantly send them (along with a short text message describing the type of polygon) to a private space online. The next day in class the teacher can open the private space and use it to illustrate polygons and their connection to students' lives, leading to a lesson on how to measure these polygons. Both flickr.com and photobucket.com are sites that would allow this type of sharing. Both have a private mobile address that can be used on any mobile phone; the teacher just needs to set up the mobile account and give the students the address.

Studyblue is a free tool that allows users to create flashcards, quizzes, and lecture notes and share them with others. Teachers can set up a "class" and give students a code, and everyone with the code can create collaborative study materials. There are mobile phone apps that the students can use to take their flashcards and notes anywhere. They can access their files offline. StudyBlue also sends helpful test and study reminders via email and text message.

Class parrot is in beta version but it is a free way for teachers to text students and parents quick reminders about school related issues.

Novel Games provides a large list of fun, simple, educational games. The list of games includes numerous math and word games. All of the games are free and are available in multiple formats. All of the games on Novel Games are easily embedded into your class blog or website.

Interesting Ways includes ideas for using Google Tools, including forms, docs, earth, searching, and maps. It also includes information on ipads in the classroom, IWB, Ipod touch, class blog posts, mobile phones, audio, video camera, QR codes, reading, creative commons, writing, internet safety gaming, wordle, twitter, voicethread, prezi, moodle search engines, wallwisher and wikis.

Youth Voices is a meeting place where students share, distribue and discuss their digital work online.

If you are looking fora way to have your students interact with others, this might be helpful. It looks like you can have your own private group or you can select to allow others to join. I am thinking that you could connect with a class in another school in or out of state and you could set up a group for the two groups of studetns to interact. Maybe they could talk about a novel they are reading or about a current event.

The purpose of this resource is to provide "Just in Time" training through an online interface for K-12 educators based on the National Eductional Technology Standards for Teachers (NETS-T). These standards are the basic technology skills every educator should prossess. In the process, educators will develop their own skills and discuver what studetns need in order to meet the NETS for Students.

This site is really nice. Many of the things we talked about in the grad class are covered here but the really nice thing about this site is that it take the NETS-T that we used and makes a connection to Marzano's 9 (Classroom Instruction that Works) and 21 things. It is really interesting. On the home page check out the two downloads of 21things and Marzano. On the right if you click on any of those categories, tools that can be used are presented. This is definitely one you will want to save in your own diigo library.
