This site for kids approaches poetry with a sense of humor. Read new poems and rate them. The activities are terrific. there are also fill-in-the-blank poems and riddles that have rhyming answers. Be sure to visit the Poetry Theater in the Poetry Fun section.

coloring.com is an interactive coloring book with more than 100 pictures for primary school pupils. Kids can color pictures online from a variety of categories and email their pictures to family and friends.

This is a site that is partnered with Discovery Education. It includes interactive lesson and videos about sicence. Students can meet scientists and play the conservation game.

Maps 101 appears to not be free but has a trial version. ti appears to be K-12. It includes materials for Spanish language educators and those teaching students with limited English. I couldn't find information on the purchase but I did see that you can request an extension on the trial version.

"This lesson uses the four modalities of reading (reading, writing, listening, and speaking) on a math word problem to bridge the gap between reading and math. After a read-aloud from the book Math Curse by Jon Scieszka and Lane Smith, students create their own word problems with answers. Students solve each other's problems. As they reread the word problems, fluency and comprehension increase. Finally, students use the skills they've learned creating word problems to complete a crossword puzzle. As students read the math concept words presented in the puzzle and write the correct answers, their reading and writing math vocabulary skills increase."

Shmoop, a publisher of digital educational resources, has added pre-algebra to its list of free learning guides. The online Pre-Algebra Learning guides contain hundreds of topics with succinct explanations, diagrams, interactive examples, practice problems, and real-world applications. Conceptua Math has some free tools available for users. While there is a subscription with conceptua math, the free things look interesting and worth checking out.

Encyclopedia of the Earth an electronic reference about the Earth, its natural environmetns, and their interaction with society. It is a free, fully searchable collection of articles written by scholars, professionals, educators, and experts who collaborate and review each other's work. The articles are written in non-technical language and are useful to students, educators, scholars, and professionals, as well as to the general public.

At a quick glance this site appears to have a lot of information about a variety of science related topics.

Game to learn word sounds. Students will work through different levels matching up the words with the correct letter.

Level 1 was a matching game. User had to listen to the word and the sound and drag the picture representing the word to the correct home location.

With the advent of the World Wide Web and the huge amount of information that is contained there, students need to be able to critically evaluate a Web page for authenticity, applicability, authorship, bias, and usability. The ability to critically evaluate information is an important skill in this information age.
