Sharing this again as there have been some additions to that that I think will be very helpful for teachers grades K-8.

Decimal Squares provides simple games for students to use to develop their math skills. The games do not require an account to play and they work on any web browser that has current Flash plug-ins installed. The games are best suited to middle school students, but could be used with upper elementary grades or with high school freshmen.

The Problem Site is loaded with great games for students. Some of the games are traditional "hang-man" style games, some of the games are traditional games with a twist, and some of the games are completely new. Each game is designed to help students develop problem solving skills. The games are categorized as word games, math games, or strategy games.

Yummy Math provides free activities and ideas that relate math comcepts with real life.

Edupic is a site with free photographs and grapics for education.

Great site with lots of pictures and graphics.

This is a really great site. Users can create book lists of books you have read, want to read or are currently reading. You can connect with friends and family and see what everyone is reading and share your book reviews. It is free.

What a great tool for groups of people to network about what they are reading. One of my grad students shared this with me. She uses it for her gifted students. She is able to see what they have or are reading. She can also see what their goal is and what books are yet to be read from their goal. Free site. Users add their own book reviews.

Site with songs for kids. "The Best in Children's Music." Free Christmas Song Book, Song Pages, Free Printable Lyric Sheets, Free Printable Sheet Music, Free Printable Activity Sheets, and ReadingLessons.com. The KIDiddles team has develope a free reading program for early reading. The program is made up of easy to follow step-by-step lessons to help teachers, homeschoolers and parents to teach early reading using synthetic phonics. Check it out now.

"The Best Resources For Learning Research & Citation Skills September 24, 2009 by Larry Ferlazzo | 8 Comments This "The Best…" list is sort of a combination of two lists I had been thinking of making to go along with The Best Online Resources To Teach About Plagiarism (Another list to keep in mind might be The Best Reference Websites For English Language Learners - 2008). The more I thought about it, though, the more I felt that a list of engaging (and even fun) sites to teach research skills and accessible citation resources would make a good combination. Since a graduation requirement in our district is that seniors need to develop a "Senior Project," I've spent some time finding these kinds of helpful sites that might be accessible to English Language Learners.  I have to say, though, that these sites (except for the first one) would probably only be accessible to more advanced ELL's. Study Ladder is filled with free activities created by educators. The activities are categorized by content areas. Within the categories items are broken down by topic or grade level. It's a free resource, thousands of activities are available.

This web site, suitable for students in grades 4-12, conains a library with full versionsof dozens of classic children's books, including David copperfield, Grampa inOz, and Peter Rabbit, as well as a few rarities such as The Bashful Earthquake by Oliver Herford and The Marquis of Carabas, painted by Edmund Evans.

this Internet encyclopedia of mythology, folklore, and religion is suitable for grades 6-12. You'll find everything from A-gskw to Zveda Vechanyaya,k with plenty in between. the mythology section is divided to six geograqphical regions: Africa, Americas, Asia, Europe, Middle East, and Oceania. The Folklore section contains general folklore, Arthurian legends, Greek heroic legend, and fascinating folktales from many lands. In addition, there are special topics, including A Bestiary, legendary heroes, an image gallery, and genealogical tables of various pantheons and prominent houses.

Fairrosa Cyber Library, maintained by Roxanne Hsu Feldman, features an online reading room with bookshelves of classics, fairy tales and folk tales, and stories and rhymes for students in grades K-8. The site also caontains a Lewis Carroll collection, an annotated list of dragon stories, an index to popular children's authors and illustrators, and related links to children's literature.

Fact Monster is a reference tool with fact-filled articles for elementary school students. It combines an almanac, atlas, dictionary, encyclopedia, and a homework helper. The site is owned by Pearson Education, the largest educational publisher in the world.

Daily Grammar provides simple and clear lessons on the basics of English grammar for grades 5-12. Set up in modules of five examples and a follow-up quiz, the simiplicity of the approach and the explanations make this a great site for students to use on their own when they feel they need self-paced remediation or enrichment. Mr. Bill Johanson, the author of the material, is a former junior and high school English teacher, with 30 years experience in the classroom.
