NBC Learn has launched this website called Finishing the Dream. It chronicles the h istory of the civil rights movement. It includes more then 100 stories from NBC News archives. Materials include documentaries on significan events over the course of 60 years, including the Montgomery bus boycott; the assassination of Martin Luther King Jr.; the integration of Central High School in Little Rock, Arkansas; the Freedom Riders; and more. The content provides the opportunity for community leaders, teachers, and students to discuss the impact of the civil rights movement and to consider related modern issues that affect people today.

Memorize.com is a new learning website that allows users to create their own study guides and then share them on the web. The free site assembles user-generated content in three formats -- flash cards, multiple choice, and visual learning diagrams. The topics range from traditional school subjects, such as history, languages, and geography, to less academic categories, such as food, billiards, and television. Users can follow other users and their pages and edit other users' pages to craete their own unique page.

Free and covers a variety of content areas.

This site has tons of Christmas activities for kids to do at home or school. There are printable games and activities such as word puzzles, math sheets, coloring, mazes, cards, and bookmarks.

This is a really organized blog set up for learning about 2.0. Please share with anyone you think might be interested.

Both of these presentations are excellent. If you have whiteboard or clickers in your school or use promethean software you will learn so much from Deb Pickerings presentation. I recommend that everyone take time to review these archived presentations.

With a view of travel as an educational experience like no other, the project makes use of digital media to promote an understanding of different culture and customs to students worldwide. The site hosts virtual field trips to England, Jordan, and South Africa that include more than 160 fort films that correspond to the destinations. Each video explains more about the region's food, music, culture, and language. Since 2003, project explorer has counted more than a million visitors to the site from more than 40 different countries. Recently, it won a Parents' Choice Award for "Outstanding Web Programming." The site's developers qre not working to add a fourth field trip--this one to Malaysia--the Project Explorer has lesson for upper elementary, middle and high school. They plan to offer lesson specifically designed for the early grades.

Yodio enables students to create and participate in individual or collaborative digital storybooks using a mobile phone. For example: a class of 1st graders on a trip to the zoo creates a collaborative digital sotrybook with Yodio concerning what they learned about the animals on the trip. Each parent chaperone has a group of four or five students, who take turns calling in to the yodio phone number (on the parent chaperone's phone) and recording their observations about an animal, perhaps even capturing the animal's sound. Students also take a picture of their chosen animal with the cell phone. Back at school, the students log in to Yodio and create a digital sotrybook combining their recorded narrations and photos.

DOGONews is a free online newspaper and Web guide for elementary and middle school students, providing short articles about current events with photos, videos, a dictonary for challenging words, and maps for geographical context. Teachers can create a custom online newspaper for their students by choosing articles and Web sites based on content area. Students can post news or discuss articles with other users in a safe, education-focused environment.

Kidblog.org is designed for elementary and middle school teachers who want to provide each student with their own, unique blog. It is safe and simple, yet powerful enough to allow students to publish posts and participate in discussions within a secure classroom blogging community. The teacher maintains complete control over student blogs. Teachers can set up their class with no student email.

I have heard good things about this site. I like the fact that the classroom teacher controls the student blogs.

This free site provides the user with the tool needed to create a live online binder around a specific topic. What a cool way to organize content, information, articles, recipes, professional development training materials, etc. Lots of home and school uses for this tool.

Harrisville Elementary School's Interactive Sites for Whiteboards: Math and language arts activities for elementary and middle school students.

Shape It Up is one of many good educational games and activities on Kinetic City. Shape It Up is an activity that would be good for use in an elementary school Earth Science lesson. The activity presents students with "before" and "after" images of a piece of Earth. Students then have to select the force nature and the span of time it took to create the "after" picture. If students choose incorrectly, Shape It Up will tell the student and they can choose again.

National Geographic Kids has a wide variety of games, puzzles, and activities for students of elementary school age. National Geographic Kids has nine games specifically for developing geography skills.
