Luke ~ thank you for posting. Do you think you could have read a bit more and found an article that has some sort of relevance to your real life/world? What was it about this article that made you want to bookmark it? Actually, what could we better use and agree upon as criteria to truly qualify an article as viable "news?" Any ideas?

Soldier gets 24 years in prison for killing Afghan civilians. - 5 views

  •
A soldier gets 24 years behind bars for killing Afghan civilians in a "sport" or "game". Also 5 other soldiers are getting 22 or more years for participating.
  • ...6 more comments...
  •
So where putting soldiers in Libya to protect the innocent and here we are killing the innocent in Afghanistan.??? Does that make sense?
  •
The soldiers should be helping the civilians, not killing them.
  •
This guy should be representing our country the right way. He is making the us look bad. It sounds like he has some problems. Normal people don't go around killing others.
  •
The soldiers are there to help, not to kill the innocent civilians of Afghanistan. It disgusts me that any human being can kill somebody as a "sport". That is just messed up.
  •
I understand that killing innocent civilians isn't right. There must be something else behind all this. I dont believe that our soldiers should be put in prison for 24 years or even 22 years just for praticipating. We dont know how innocent these civilians really are.
  •
You would think soldiers would know better than to do that. They are fighting for us and then we have to talk about them because they do something stupid like this. Ya know what i mean?
  •
I understand that there are certain people who need to be killed, the people who are doing harm to the civilians are in the wrong. The soldiers are there to kill the bad people, not to make a sick game out of killing innocent people.
  •
James has a really good point, here. What if there is a bit more to the story? Was it truly a completely innocent a civilian? (Mmm... maybe I should go in and actually read the story. The conversation surrounding the article definitely makes it more interesting and makes me want to take a further look into it. Nice job, students!

People like that shouldn't have bail. Murderers are dangerous people and deserve their sentence.

Women vs Chilies - 7 views

  •
A lady found a sewing needle in her ribs and mashed potatoes.
  • ...4 more comments...
  •
Interesting article, Ryan. I hadn't heard about this before. When tagging, common words like "lady" aren't always the best choice as they are too general. Better tags from a folksonomy standpoint may have been HIV, Chile's, needle, food, etc.
  •
Wow this is bad. She is probably going to win that case. People can't be lenient with that kind of stuff. She could've possibly tested positive for many infections.
  •
People need to be more careful when preparing food. Swallowing the needle could of caused problems and injured the woman. There shouldn't be a needle in a kitchen in the first place.
  •
This makes you want to think twice before going to eat out at a restraunt. She will most likely win her case against Chilies. There is no excuse for a needle being in food.
  •
If i ever found a needle in my food i would sue them also. Yea she could have got HIV from it or another disease, but what is she swallowed it.
  •
I wonder if the lady put the needle in her food and then just said that it was in there. She really doesn't have any proof that they put it in there. Also, Chilies doesn't use needles in any way to prepare their food so why would it be in their.

Beaves and Butthead come back to television. - 1 views

  •
After almost 15 years the famous rock hard metal crashing loosers in high school now come back to fill a time in the slot of MTV.
  • ...3 more comments...
  •
Surprised Beavis and Butt-head are finding their way back to TV! Really need to watch spelling. If tags are mis-spelled, people will not be able to find them. For example, when I searched "mcahs" your article did not come up because it was entered incorrectly.
  •
Beavis and Butt-Head finally back on TV. One of the greatest cartoons to date is back.
  •
One of the funniest TV shows ever. Im surprised its aloud back on TV from all the things they did.
  •
I am really surprised to see this show coming back on air, although i do not find it to have any meaning, I would rather watch this than some of the other shows that are on MTV now.
  •
That is awesome who doesn't like that show i don't know about anyone else though but i don't know how in the world that got back onto the air. I hope the creators made a lot of changes because if not it will be taken right back off the air ya know what i mean.

Donation jar stolen - 1 views

  •
Police are looking for three people who took a donation jar from julf gas filled with $20
  • ...8 more comments...
  •
Luke, in the future, you will have the ability to choose between different kinds of media to bookmark for this purpose. For this assignment, it needed to be an article that your classmates could read and comment. Nice job with the tagging ~ accurate.
  •
It is sad that some people have to resort to stealing money from a donation jar. The fact that they got only $20 out of the jar just makes them look even worse.
  •
It is very sad that someone would have to resort to something that low.
  •
I agree with Tyler. It's horrible that people will do anything just for money. Taking money from a donation jar is really inconsiderate, and not to mention, illegal.
  •
That sad that someone would steal donations.
  •
This is the stupidest thing I have ever heard of someone doing. Most donation jars are basically empty anyway because people really don't care.
  •
Times might be hard, but stealing isn't an excuse. Especially when it's from a donation jar to help someone else out.
  •
Thats so terrible to steal a donation jar of 20 dollars. Its terrible how low people go just for some money.
  •
This is sad. That money could have been used to make a difference in someone sick and now it's being used for something not nearly important. People are just so inconsiderate.
  •
That is just a shame how people could go and steal things, and to go and steal money that is for someone with cancer yet. I dont think some people have feelings. It is just wrong and uncaring to do something like that.

Mount Carmel Township approves ban on fake pot - 3 views

  •
Mount Carmel Township is trying to ban selling, delivering, or buying synthetic drugs. They will be the first township with this ban but they want to see it happen. If it goes info effect, it will start April 20. After this date punishment by law will be put into place.
  • ...2 more comments...
  •
Finally this area shows some kind of common sense, we need to get these "drugs" off the street including the people doing them.
  •
This is a ban that is much needed. So many people are abusing things like this and it really needs to stop. People who continue to abuse this should be punished to the full extent.
  •
It is about time somebody does something about this ridiculous stuff that people are consuming into there body. People could really make a drug out of anything ya know what i mean?
  •
Mount Carmel Township will be the first township with an ordinance banning synthetic marijuana. But what does this matter? No matter what they ban, there's always going to be the nest new thing out. People will keep finding ways to get around the bans, and the new laws. Its essentially pointless for all this to be happening. even though i do agree that the "fake pot" is a bad idea

That's good. One less murderer on the streets that anybody has to worry about.

I believe that this man should be charged with homicide for stabbing this man to death.

Seth Mathew Hornburger is out on bail after being accused of killing Alan Martin of Windfield.
  •
Any more details? Do you know any of these folks? What makes this a viable news story? We can always make things more interesting when we find something that is relevant to us, our real world, or relative to the society in which we live.

Choppers douse reactors - 0 views

  •
Helicopters are being used for air support in japan to douse the nuclear reactors to keep the cool so they do not meltdown.
  •
I think that this is good. Japan is already in a horrible situation with the Tsunami and if they had a nuclear meltdown, it would just cause even more damage then what's going on now.
  •
Hopefully they can put it out so that there is no nuclear pollution on top of all of the devastation.

Missing girl - 2 views

  •
16 year old girl from Arizona left voluntarily with a 19 year old man to Utah.
  • ...5 more comments...
  •
I believe this is the parents' fault, as this girl met the 19 year old male over a social networking site. Parents should monitor a young child's use of social networking sites such as Facebook and Myspace.
  •
what kid of person would take a child from there parents . they have to be mental inpassated or something. there are some sick people out there... i hope they find the 16 year old girl soon , and that man better go to jail for life . and parent now a day's don't care want there kids do . they only care in times like this when there kid goes missing
  •
Blame the parents i would never let my 16 year old daughter date or see a 19 year old man.
  •
I blame it on the parents also. They should ask the children where they are going before they leave instead of leaving the house without them telling them where they are going. The parents should have been more strict.
  •
I do not think it was completely the parent's fault. Ashley could have been sneaky about talking to him. Now, the guy she is with will probably get in trouble for her going with him.
  •
I think parents should keep track of their children more and this wont happend.
  •
Nice job on looking at both sides, here, gang!

Thats a great story. There needs to be more kids like that in this world. Most kids would just call for help but he actually jumped in himself.
  •
Good for him for doing that being so young that's amazing.
  •
This teen is very brave and should be honored for what he did.
  •
The boy should be noticed for his courage not many kids would even know what to do.
  •
This boy should be honored for his actions.
  •
This kid risked his life to save his friend. Now that is what i call a Best friend ya know what i mean.
  •
It takes a true friend to risk their life for another friend.
  •
He is obviously a good friend and he should be awarded for that good thing he did. This child is brave and smart and did the right thing.
  •
this way a really moving story ... how a 13 year old boy rescuse his friend from ice and he got honor for saving his life
  •
Agree with everyone. This was a great story to pick out, Jon! We see, hear, read so much about bullying and cyber-bullying in today's world. We need to focus, too, on students who make it a point to do the right thing. This should certainly serve as motivation for us all!
