When we think of domestic abuse or abuse in general we often think at home situations involving a man and woman. In Saudi Arabia, and surely other parts of the world, maids are frequently subjected to abuse. This article is one example of a maid that was severely abused for the simple act of bringing coffee too late. Foreign workers in Saudi Arabia are often abused by their employers.

After Western powers suspected that the Syrian government used chemical weapons against the Syrian people, tensions grew against them and Russia, China, and Syria. The Eastern Powers believe that Western powers are overstepping their bounds for their need of power but the Western powers think that they need to interfere to help the people.

This article discusses the way women feel about the laws that pertain to them in Saudi Arabia. Looking at the oppressive laws on women in Saudi Arabia, an outsider would think that all women would hope for a change and for equality. However, there are many women that feel that the laws allow them to live a life of privilege without having to worry about driving or working. I never even considered this perspective.

This article accentuates the "Age of Proxy Wars" in the Middle East. While Syria and Libya are the 2 most known proxy situations, the article illuminates other states involved as well. We know already about UAE, Turkey, Qatar, and Saudi Arabia, which this article also brings up, but new information suggests that Bahrain and Kuwait are supporting sides of the regional war as well. While these nations think they're doing their part to support their values, these proxy wars are actually fostering further extremism since people supporting each side do not directly suffer the consequences. The article states that the metastasizing of these jihadist groups is grave threat to US national security, and the US must intervene in order to solve this crisis. The author says the US needs to improve their performance in donor cordination, funding the right groups, as well as be more aggressive in working directly with elections, uncovering networks of money and influence. He says rather than the conduction of elections, we must focus on the nature of politics in general, curbing corruption and embedding sectarian democratic values in their political sphere.

Russia is attempting to bring opposition groups and the Syrian government to Moscow in order to "talk peace." In the past, Russia has supported the Syrian President and because of this, opposition groups are wearing of these alleged "peace talks."

A weapons test video on a closed range, while on its own is not that important, the video ties in very well with my other three links this week. I think too often there is a disconnect between this idea okay we are arming these people (rebels) and what does that mean, hopefully this video in conjunction with the others helps bridge that disconnect.

This is a really cool article. I've seen a couple of these movies and now I think I'll devote some time to watching the rest. YouTube has almost every Arab film ever produced, though few of them are subtitled.

the president of Turkey think holding thew fire in Syria could give Assad a rest to take a breath. also the president think Russia, USA and European union positions are negative and they not taking the Syrian crisis seriously.

This article is definitely an interesting read. It talks about a network of travelers from Walsall that are now part of ISIS. I think that we really need to better understand why people in Western countries feel the urge to leave everything they have and go live under Islamic rule in Syria. There has to be some sort of brainwashing involved because this article shows one of the men having claimed not to be murderous, and that he just wants to "live under Islamic law and help the oppressed amongst us."

A New York Times article talking about the differences as far as legal terms between a truce, a cease-fire, and an armistice. I think that it's an excellent article to include because there's a lot of mixing and matching of these three terms by media sources when in actuality they are very different.
