This website was originally created as a resource of 5,000 images concerning the American Civil War, but has since grown to include many more subject areas concerning U.S. History. The site is very easy to navigate and provides teachers and students with clear headings to find pictures from whatever specific area of U.S. History they are looking for. Here are just a few of the main headings used for categorizing the photos: Native Americans, Native American Culture, The Age of Exploration, Settlements and Colonies, Slavery in America, etc. I could easily see this resource being used by a high school U.S. History teacher, as well as by their students. A teacher could use this resource to add more visual meaning and interest to their own presentations or guided notes. Students, like-wise, could easily add relevant photos to their reports, presentations, or research projects. Students may require help with downloading the photos and embedding into their presentations, but this could be corrected with a simple modeling exercise where the teacher demonstrates how to navigate the site and download any desired photos. I really liked this site and have never seen it before. I plan on taking advantage of this year as I plan to create some new U.S. History assignments for my students.

Soundbible.com is an audio source that provides copyright free sound effects and clips. It also provides royalty free sounds at only .10 per sound. This site would be great to explore if teaching a 10th grade world history or 11th grade U.S. history class. (It has sounds from specific war weapons/planes, etc.) However, it can be used with many other grades and students of varying abilities. It offers nature sounds, animal sounds, etc. These sounds can be used in a PowerPoint or other presentation and the sounds offered are great quality. The Library of Congress: American Memory is an excellent source for a variety of resources, including images, video, and audio recordings. The resources are free, but be sure to check out its copyright notice at http://www.loc.gov/homepage/legal.html. This website would be useful in an 11th grade U.S. History class. While the site is a little hard to navigate at first because of the many resources available, it is an excellent way to incorporate Common Core standards with the many high quality primary resources.

Ookaboo provides almost one million images that are searchable by concepts. The pictures are licensed under various Creative Commons licenses or are public domain, and are free to use for educational and other non-commercial use. This site would be great to use for high school students in a variety of subjects: world history, U.S. history, biology and environmental science. It could also be used for middle school geography classes. The photos appear to be of very good quality, and the website is easy to use.

Here we feature the best movies of the United States Government, from training films to history, from our national parks to the U.S. Fire Academy and the Postal Inspectors, all of these fine flix are available for reuse without any restrictions whatsoever. There are many different topics that would be so helpful for teachers. There is a lot of history available. Showing these to 5th graders would be very interesting for them to see actual footage of specific topics in our curriculum. Specific items would be World War II film. That is covered in 5th grade curriculum. Difficulties with using this sight is that children should not be using them without a teacher previewing the info first. Some of the things may be too graphic.

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service's National Digital Library provides a collection of images, historical artifacts, audio clips, publications, and videos. Unless marked for private use, most of the collection is in the public domain. Instead of providing artifacts entirely based on the variety of fish and wildlife in the U.S., the website mainly focuses on artifacts on the services provided by the department. The artifacts that are based on the fish and wildlife would make excellent items to include in science classes of all ages. The artifacts based on the services provided would be better suited for high school social studies classes or any type of community involvement subject. The collection is huge, with a lot of information that is too "specialized" (documents outlining conservation plans of specific complexes), users of the site should use the search function over the browse function.
