crucial ideas - will be using MOOCs, flipped classrooms, BYOD very very soon. 2014 or earlier.

Good day Steve In 2000 I created my on flipped an open enrollment evening college statistics class using a free online programed statistics textbook plus unique excel statistics software for homework. The top 20% (about 5 students) learned much more with less work and spent much less time in class/lab. The middle 60% had much less math anxiety, learned something but not enough to be useful. The bottom 20 finished with probably did something for their self-esteem.

In the World of Facebook - The New York Review of Books - 6 views

  •
Facebook, the most popular social networking Web site in the world, was founded in a Harvard dorm room in the winter of 2004. Like Microsoft, that other famous technology company started by a Harvard dropout, Facebook was not particularly original. A quarter-century earlier, Bill Gates, asked by IBM to provide the basic programming for its new personal computer, simply bought a program from another company and renamed it. Mark Zuckerberg, the primary founder of Facebook, who dropped out of college six months after starting the site, took most of his ideas from existing social networks such as Friendster and MySpace. But while Microsoft could as easily have originated at MIT or Caltech, it was no accident that Facebook came from Harvard.

How to Find What Clicks in the Classroom | Chronicle.com - 0 views

  • Colleges may feel that they can't afford to provide any space and time for improving teaching. They may blame faculty members, students, or even society for a lack of innovation in education — and those charges may well be fair. But colleges unwilling to plant the seeds for change shouldn't be surprised that they grow nothing.

Stu's Quiz Boxes! - 15 views

  •
"Stu's Quiz Boxes (for Windows) might remind people of the TV gameshow, Jeopardy!, but it's not that, it's much better than that. You can use it to make an exciting, interactive and educational computer-based gameshow available to everybody. It can be used in so many different situations - in schools and colleges, at conferences and parties. But the main use is expected to be in classrooms, that's why Quiz Boxes is all about POINTS, not DOLLARS. There is no link to gambling like there is with that other game."
