Totally 21st century in mindset, this site allows you to search by themes including American History, Community & Social Action, Creativity & Innovation, Global Cultures, Natural World, People & Places, and STEM. Many videos and lessons are available for educators to use with the K-8 set. The site has its own interactives like "Pitch Perfect" which uses a baseball metaphor to explain the parts of the orchestra and its "All Star" players through the years. Lessons also refer users to other helpful websites and interactives. Lots of ways to celebrate and integrate the arts with the help of this website!

Our money is tied to our culture, so an interdisciplinary lesson on math and history would be be a logical choice. This website would be good for 2nd to 4th grade students. Adventure, Art, Facts and Collecting Games have some potential for use in a classroom. You can go on a virtual tour of the process of making coins on this site. My favorite feature is the Coin News page because it had some links and coin facts for holidays.

With the election coming up in 2012, it is important to remember that "current events" does not have to be limited to a humanities classroom. This lesson could make a nice starting point for an interdisciplinary lesson on math and government.

The section on technology might provide a starting point for an interdisciplinary unit between Humanities and Technology for an MYP program.

Exceptionally interesting and creative ways to look at music. Four interactive experiments with sound, one set of videos showing the process of others experimenting, and a very interesting module called "Take the Beat Back" that looks at the origins of different instruments as well as the scientific explanations of the sounds they produce.

NPR has a number of podcasts and other media available on current events and global issues. It is easy to share the information with students to start discussions. When creating websites and other resources, I have used some of their multimedia resources.

David Warlick's new InfoGraphic-a-Day is a great way to help kids (and adults) understand how data can be formatted and analyzed. The site's organization with specific subjects and some interdisciplinary themes like Health works well with a 21st century approach. Students also can work on developing skills related to understanding all of the content that is available and creating and sharing their own work. Conveniently, Warlick has included a section just for data sources - although teachers and students could certainly seek out their own.
