Prezi - The Zooming Presentation Editor - 0 views

  •
Create a presentation that lives in the cloud - accessible anywhere you can hop on the internet. Insert text and photos. Zoom in and out. Play with the path you take through your presentation. The nonlinear presentation style may remind some of sitting in the midst of piles of papers preparing to type a paper. Students in middle school will use this to its best advantage, given some time to be creative. Of course teachers can use this one for their presentations, too. .prezi-player { width: 550px; } .prezi-player-links { text-align: center; }Thoughts on using Prezi as a teaching tool on Prezi

Glogster EDU - 21st century multimedia tool for educators, teachers and students | Text... - 1 views

  •
Use this tool to make an interactive poster. You can add all different types of media to this page, making it good for multimodal 21st century learning. Would work well with lots of subjects, but could be especially fun for addressing communication and math. Students could make a Glogster for a word problem they write or explain the concept of slope using a variety of formats. Older students could even work on analyzing data to make their own infographics. This is great for getting students to respond in a variety of modes. Teachers could use this as a communication tool for parents - with info, pics, and videos. Below is an example of a glog made by a 7th grade teacher to "sell" a book -students could make their own glogs similar to this one instead of a traditional book report.

More information about copyright and the internet. Create, remix, and share - legally. "The infrastructure we provide consists of a set of copyright licenses and tools that create a balance inside the traditional "all rights reserved" setting that copyright law creates. Our tools give everyone from individual creators to large companies and institutions a simple, standardized way to keep their copyright while allowing certain uses of their work - a "some rights reserved" approach to copyright - which makes their creative, educational, and scientific content instantly more compatible with the full potential of the internet. The combination of our tools and our users is a vast and growing digital commons, a pool of content that can be copied, distributed, edited, remixed, and built upon, all within the boundaries of copyright law."

Tools for teacher and students. The plagiarism checker and keyword checker could be useful when assessing students written work. A number of graphic organizers are available. Items can be shared on your blog or website. The "fakebook" template would be a fun way to have students demonstrate their reading comprehension or historical understanding.

Dipity - Find, Create, and Embed Interactive Timelines - 1 views

  •
History of The Wheel on Dipity. Dipity can be used to create historical timelines for class. I really like the sources feature available at the bottom of the timeline. Keep in mind, this is also an EXTREMELY social medium - it can pull your pics, tweets, blog posts, even your bookmarks together from all over the web and put them in a timeline or flipbook format. I think there is a tremendous amount of potential for that and I am interested to see how its use evolves. In the meantime these features also make it great to grab information on current events and global issues - which is probably the best use of the tool right now.

Lots of fun ways to play with your pictures. Interacts perfectly with Flikr. I love the trading card feature which could be used as a fun icebreaker activity with older students- creating their own trading cards and sharing. The thumbnail links to one I made a few years ago. You could also use it with 4th to 6th for making trading cards for historical persons/places/things as the year progressed - students could use them to study and they still love the idea of - "collect them all." Try some of the tools on your own to make a photomosaic or design your own header for your Wordpress blog.

Trying to find a way to link time and place.. This tool is excellent for documenting current events. With some anachronisms (Country/city names), it can also be used for history projects. You can make a movie of the path - including comments along the way. (eg. http://www.tripline.net/trip/Silk_Road_Travels-35447507447210038F7CB9175B8803EE)

Little Bird Tales - Home - 0 views

This tool is so great because everything is so well integrated. Students can upload their own pictures and draw. Their thoughts can by typed and recorded. Everything in one place! Great range of color in the palette. Everything is easy enough for young elementary students to be successful independently. For younger students this could easily be used for fiction or nonfiction writing. The audio aspect allows them to explore more or different things than they may be able to in their writing. Kids love the fact that they made a movie. Easily shared with parents and others. Way to make kids want to become digital storytellers!

A map tool that allows students to look at the world in terms of different species, locations , and ecosystems. The site also features interactives students can use to discover more about certain areas and species, like gorillas. Videos, podcasts, and photos enrich the site. Teachers looking for data sets to use with older students may appreciate the information the WWF makes public (http://www.worldwildlife.org/science/data/item1872.html).

Mind42.com - Collaborative mind mapping in your browser - 2 views

Easy to use and free. You can start a brainstorming map and ask friends to join you in adding to it. Using the tool is easy. If you choose to "publish" your map you can share your map to your blog or website. You can add an image by using its URL or you can do a Google search for images without leaving the map. Attach a note or a to-do list to a node. Just seeing these possibilities makes me wonder how I could use maps in new ways. They even let you link to other maps, allowing you to nest information of all kinds. A bird's eye view is available within the screen so you can see the overall structure or move the mouse on it to show another part of the map in the large window. Lots of functionality!

Lots of math activities and some tools. These are a little less intuitive and the graphics are less sophisticated than some other sites, but the activities are fun and valuable. The fraction equivalence activity requires students to use their spatial understanding and gives some opportunity for design. The activities and tools can be sorted by grade level (3-5, 6-8, 9-12, and Undergraduate) or by Topic.

Many Eyes - 0 views

With so much data available via the internet, an important skill students must learn is how to make meaning of that information. Many Eyes gives middle school+ students an opportunity to experiment with comparing values, tracking value over time, looking at the relationship between the parts and the whole. Data can also be interpreted as text or with maps. Creates polished looking infographics that would be great visual aids for science experiments or oral presentations. Good resource for teachers and administrators, too!

Topics cover a variety of areas - including lots of work with fractions, factors and use of data. I like the paper tool that allows the teacher to create specially designed paper for an assignment.
