Human health is profoundly affected by weather and climate. Extreme weather events kill tens of thousands of people every year and undermine the physical and psychological health of millions. Droughts directly affect nutrition and the incidence of diseases associated with malnutrition. Floods and cyclones can trigger outbreaks of infectious diseases and damage hospitals and other health infrastructure, overwhelming health services just when they are needed most.

Mercy Corps' primary goal is to enable Afghans to improve their quality of life by strengthening sustainable, legitimate livelihoods. Their programs are aimed at improving agricultural production and market linkages, community and agricultural infrastructure, livestock health, natural resource management and access to financial services, with an emphasis on linking government, communities and the private sector.

This Map Library are assembled by The Afghanistan Team at the Civil-Military Fusion Centre and consists of hundreds of maps of Afghanistan and the surrounding region. The maps in the collection cover varying scopes, from regional and national levels to provincial, district and even city levels. The maps reflect information on a wide range of topics, themes and sectors, including humanitarian aid, infrastructure, natural resources and security, among others. The maps have been collected from credible open-sources, including international organisations, research bodies, governmental agencies and others.

MapStory, as a compliment to Wikipedia, is a new dimension to the global data commons that empowers a global user community to organize all knowledge about the world spatially and temporally. Perhaps more important, MapStory is an infrastructure for enabling "MapStorytelling" as a means of communicating important issues to a global audience. The goal is to enable any student, teacher or practitioner on Earth to tap the power of this new mode of conveying one's stories, arrayed across geography and as they unfold over time. MapStory will become the convening point where MapStorytellers of all kinds come to publish their expressions, and to critique each others' MapStories, leading to a consistently accumulating and improving global body of knowledge about global dynamics, worldwide, over the course of history.

An online magazine providing the latest news and views on how Spatial Data Infrastructures (SDI) are developing across the globe. The focus is on spatial information policy and strategy, legal and organisational issues, as well as pratical implementation challenges and successes. Further it acts as a clearing house for information on SDI-related standards, transnational legislation, open source and open data principles, and current debates on key issues as they arise, from key stakeholders in the geospatial world.

GENI's mission is to conduct research and to educate world leaders and the public about the critical viability of the interconnection of electric power networks between nations and continents, with an emphasis on tapping abundant renewable energy resources, what we call 'the GENI Initiative.'
