Twitter warned us that more downtime was likely in light of record usage surrounding the World Cup; this afternoon, more downtime has arrived, with fail whales being the only thing available at Twitter.com as of around 6:20pm ET.

Starting this summer, Twitter will use its new "t.co" domain name to shorten links that users post directly on Twitter.com or through applications such as TweetDeck. That will help the posts stay within the service's 140-character.The main aim is to link it in a way that removes the obscurity of shortened link and lets you know where a link will take you.
I'll probably need to sign up for another account for that as I'm still having problems with Twitter. The tweets I made during class yesterday briefly appeared last night under the #ci593b tag, but they disappeared this morning. I also tweeted some sites last night that still don't show up.

It seems that there is now a new trend of combining different social media functions at one platform.
This blogger speaks about social media and how it can lead people to think they have real relationships with people when they don't. It also can lead to poor social skills. Interesting because I recently was watching a reality dating show where a contestant was offended that people did not read his blogs. I'll call that a false sense of "celebrity", lol.
