Using FriendFeed to aggregate activities on up to 58 different social media sites. The article talks about how FriendFeed is used a a reader in order to look at all of your social networking sites from a single source.

This blogger speaks about social media and how it can lead people to think they have real relationships with people when they don't. It also can lead to poor social skills. Interesting because I recently was watching a reality dating show where a contestant was offended that people did not read his blogs. I'll call that a false sense of "celebrity", lol.

Students in the University of Maryland research were asked to give up all media for a day .For the research, titled "24 Hours: Unplugged," 200 students at the University of Maryland's College Park Campus blogged about their experiences after a day of giving up all social media. The project director Susan Moeller noticed that what they wrote at length about was how they hated losing their personal connections. Going without media meant, in their world, going without their friends and family." The students missed not much of the media but the social connections that it facilitates. Social media seems inevitable in this 21 century

Ezy, this is a great example and shows how connected we are with the social media. I wonder if they have some demographic information in the research. How do their responses change based on age, gender etc.

I can relate to that article. I sat in my camper last nite and didn't feel very good. Maybe that was related to the fact that my cell phone was my only means of communicating with others? :-) I realize things are changing, but its crazy to me how accessible people are these days. I find at work that there is a tipping work on the other extreme where being contacted too much has a negative effect.

I know it is a pay for product. $30 I am considering it, it aggregates all your social networks.

Looks like they want to become more "social" -- we discussed this strange site in class today --- may be redefining how it works.

Interesting take on social phenomenon and how to determine what is actually happening in the real world as compared to the "social networking" world. Come to your own decision.

Timely article. Akin to banning social media in the classroom?

Some key stats: 75% of Internet users visit a social networking site when they go online. People are spending 66% more time on social networking sites than they did a year ago. There's more interesting stuff in there. Check it out.

A 17-year-old Isaac Washington is being tried as an adult on an attempted murder charge that accuses him of stabbing a classmate at school in March. Police have said the teen was upset about a Facebook page called "Everybody Hates Isaac Washington" that contained racial slurs about Washington, who is black. The districts blocked social networking sites like Facebook and Twitter at school, which might not be the best solution but they went further to educating students, parents, school staff and administrators on how best to use social media and the Internet .
