Early Childhood Computer Experience and Cognitive and Motor Development - 3 views

    Participants in this study included 122 preschool children, which included 57 boys and 65 girls in a head start program. The results indicated that 53% of the participants had a home computer and 83% had children software. There were 29% that played on their home computers daily. An additional 44% of the children played on the computer on a weekly basis. Children that had computer access showed improvement measures in cognitive development in this particular study.

    In this article National Public Radio discusses how the issue of fair use has come to the for front in recent years particularly in the television and music industry. However the case of copyrighting, those who support fair use feel that taping tv shows, downloading music or accessing you tube isn't considered copyrighting if these practices are used for non-monetary purposes. The issue of fair use has prompted several lawsuits and the article outlines 4 of these that are recent.

Copyright, Fair Use, and the Education Dilemma - 4 views

  • Section 110* of the Copyright Law contains exemptions that allow nonprofit education institutions some limited rights to use copyrighted materials in face-to-face classroom settings and also some more restricted rights to transmit some types of copyrights works. NEW - The "Technology, Education, and Copyright Harmonization Act", commonly referred to as the TEACH Act* completely revises Section 110(2) of the Copyright Law to address use of copyrighted material for distance education. The ALA and the University of Texas have posted information regarding this important new legislation.

    Once again, this article explains inquiry based learning. In addition, it discusses the "art of the question". In other words, it explains how teachers must learn how to ask the right questions.

    I was interested in reading this article because we are having discussions about our approach to teaching. It seems to be coming up often that teaching is no longer " the sage on the stage". We are in the process to becoming more "guides" to student learning. Questioning is an important part. We need good questioning in order to have our students access the higher order thinking skills.

    I thought the activity would be great to use also it seemed like an activity that would be fun for students not so much for teachers. The only thing is I was trying to use the link and it wouldnt allow me access to the information.
