"Through Dan Meyer's blog I just learned that Google has recently released dozens of lessons for exploring computational thinking through the use of Python programming. Now if you're wondering, "what the heck does that mean?" don't worry, I wondered the same. But since Dan Meyer is one of the people in the edu-blog-o-sphere that I have great respect for, and since he wrote one of the lessons, I had to investigate exploring computational thinking through Python. Python is a programming language. Exploring computational thinking through Python is a series of lessons in which middle school and high school students use Python to try to put mathematics and science concepts to use."

This flipchart helps students explore working on commission. Using 5 case studies they can explore straight commission, salary plus commission and draw against commission. They will also learn about vocabulary that includes: salary, commission, net pay, gross pay, bonus, draw, base and wages. This flipchart allows student to interactively explore types of jobs that are commission-based as well as the the pros and cons of commission-based employment. Student will need to understand simple mathematics including addition, subtraction, multiplying, and percentages. Some actions are embedded in the flipchart like hide/show, page notes, show calculator and others.

National Geographic Maps: Tools for Adventure is the best everything-map site I have seen. The site was created by the Children's museum of Indianapolis. Maps are presented as the keys to adventure. Students learn to use maps to find their way, share information, look at patterns, and solve problems. There are six excellent interactive games for students to practice putting their math skills to use. Students can explore a pyramid by guiding a robot to hieroglyphs, find sunken treasure, explore Mars, go on an adventure, see GIS in action, and visit Adventure Island. I love the realistic feel of these games, as students explore and guide robots, they get a "live" video feed of where they are navigating. On the National Geographic Maps: Tools for Adventures site, you will find information about the Indianapolis exhibit, how to use maps, related map links, and lesson plans. This is one of those websites that my description just won't do justice to, be sure to check it out!

This site was so cool. I created my own comic story. I was able to play brain buster games I read stories and had stories read to me, and watched videos about how to create a comic.. What a fascinating journey for Fiona McIntosh's class - they explored the two historic flights made by Charles Kingsford Smith and his crew. 'It's a pretty amazing learning object. It's absolutely loaded with things that kids love - I loved it. It's got really accurate footage from the period and kept the kids absolutely riveted. They really loved the fact that they were able to make their own newsreel. For some kids it's probably the best piece of work I've seen them do this year! Most students made wonderful observations, comparisons and displayed the knowledge they had acquired.'
