Isn't this a great video to help explain the power of social networks, and in particular the power of a PLN? Thanks to Sue Sheffer for sharing that with me. It was in her RSS reader.

"So it's my pleasure to share with you our new education programs that are aimed at innovations in STEM+ learning and empowering socially responsible entrepreneurs through global collaboration and the power of technology. Our goal is to equip educators, students and aspiring entrepreneurs with the skills and tools to drive amazing social change in their communities and around the world. Needless to say, I'm VERY excited - I think you will be, too... We believe there is no better way to address society's most pressing challenges than by equipping students, educators and future entrepreneurs with the skills and technology to turn their ideas and ambition into action. Our long-term vision is a world where unlimited educational opportunities transform lives, strengthen communities and drive social change worldwide. To turn our vision into reality, we are partnering with leading education, non-profit and nongovernmental institutions to offer three new programs described below. So what could be more exciting than announcing these new programs? Perhaps selecting exciting and innovative proposals in a few months! Will yours be one of them?"

YouTube Blog: More choice for users: unlisted videos - 6 views

  •
With this feature, you can mark your videos as "unlisted." This means only people who have the link to the video will be able to watch it. It won't appear in any of YouTube's public pages, in search results, on your personal channel or on the browse page. It's a private video, except you don't need a YouTube account to watch it and there is no limit to the number of people who can view it.

"Why shouldn't learning start with hunches? As a new teacher, there are many times I feel stranded somewhere between the older students I teach and the younger teachers above me. I still have strong memories of being a high school student, but am operating in an authoritative role "above" them. I've gotten used to being "the new guy" on the staff, but also to being "the tech guy" to whom many come with questions. I enjoy the dichotomy that being new and also holding a position of soft power puts me in; It's a place that fosters frequent reflection, which is good." An excellent comparison of traditional research methods to 21st Century skills. A great discussion to advocate for the use of Wikipedia, and the difference in research styles between students being a positive thing.

In Touch: ActivExpressions - Handheld Formative Assessments - 1 views

  • what if you’re the student who knows the material and can easily answer the question? You have to wait till everyone answers the question before the teachers moves on to the next question and that’s time that could be used in a better way.Promethean has developed a solution to this problem and has unveiled a new version of software that will take the SRS technology to a new level. The company calls it “real-time personalized intervention.” Basically the new technology will send a question directly to each students ActivExpression “clicker” device.

"Browse local data from the Census Bureau's American Community Survey, based on samples from 2005 to 2009. Because these figures are based on samples, they are subject to a margin of error, particularly in places with a low population, and are best regarded as estimates. "
