  •
European study to find out whether 4 different protein sources affect the rate of gastric emptying and electrofysiology in this group of children. The protein composition of nutrition may affect the rate of gastric emptying and gastric fysiology. This is especially important in children with neurologic impariment, who commonly rely on tube feedings, have feeding problems, nausea, vomiting, gastroesophageal reflux and delayed gastric emptying.

NIH/NHLBI News Release--Premies: Early Treatment Prevents Lasting Breathing Problems, B... - 0 views

  •
In large, multicenter clinical studies, a therapy has been shown to significantly lower the risk of lung and brain damage in some very low birthweight premature infants. Results from two randomized clinical trials demonstrate that when given within the first few weeks of life, inhaled nitric oxide helps prevent chronic lung disease in some low birthweight premature infants. In addition, when used within 48 hours after birth, treatment appears to protect some premature newborns from brain injury.

Surfactant Positive Airway Pressure and Pulse Oximetry Trial - Full Text View - Clinica... - 0 views

  •
Ongoing study sponsored by NICHD will compare the use of continuous positive airway pressure initiated at birth with the early administration of surfactant administered through a tube in the windpipe within 1 hour of birth for premature infants born at 24 to 27 weeks gestation. In addition, these infants within 2 hours of birth, will have a special pulse oximeter placed to continuously monitor their oxygen saturation in two different target ranges (85-89% or 91-95%). This study will determine whether or not these two management strategies affect chronic lung disease and survival of premature infants.
