Twitter as a Metacognitive Support Device by Alan Reid : Learning Solutions Magazine - 0 views

  • From an instructor’s perspective, Twitter offers the ability to prompt students throughout the learning process by asking them to reflect on learning strategies and time management, which ultimately raises metacognitive awareness.
  • While the use of Twitter only shows a slight increase in grades (about .5 percent), it substantially improves engagement and motivation
  • Twitter enhances the social presence outside of the classroom, which leads to overall course satisfaction.
  • ...2 more annotations...
  • if student satisfaction, engagement, and metacognitive awareness are all part of your definition of a successful course, then introducing Twitter in your classroom may be an option for you.
  • Twitter is not static. Rather, it is an interactive tool under learner control. Further, Maria Bannert refers to a metacognitive support device that “focuses students’ attention on their own thoughts and on understanding the activities they are engaged in during the course of learning.” When used explicitly as a tool to improve self-regulation through metacognitive support, Twitter becomes very effective.

An interesting article on how Twitter can be used as a metacognitive - thinking about your own learning - supportive device.

This and the previous resource are nice finds! I shared them on Twitter and the facilitator who helped us with our Google Workshop for Educators (GWE) commented that they were excellent tutorials.
  •
Thanks Bernard! After looking at the code, it's almost perfect except for one thing: we need to store the form on our own server. (But yes, the Google spreadsheet linked to the form should still be updated automagically.) Would it be ok to use CeL's own server to host our own HTML pages for this purpose?
  •
If it's CeL services or related materials, having it in CeL server is not an issue. example : e-Fiesta 2012 registration page. For personal usage or for AGs I advise the htmls to be stored on their own server space.

Easy Assessment App « Mr Robbo - The P.E Geek - 2 views

  •
For the app developers in CeL. This is not the prettiest app but it has some interesting ideas on creating rubric-based evaluations. I like the sliding Likert-type scale and the way other artefacts like photos and videos can be added to an evaluation.

Apps - 0 views

  • App of the week Denso Free, from the Apple App Store Denso is a couch potato's dream. It is an easy way to discover and organise interesting Web videos. It works like Instapaper, except that instead of saving text, you are saving videos for future viewing. Sadly, the app will not work with YouTube videos, but it works with many other sources. It has compiled a list of videos to help you find topics that interest you. You can also watch, share and comment on videos shared by your friends on Facebook and Twitter. This is a universal app for both the iPhone and iPad but, as with most apps which handle video, it looks best on the iPad. Perhaps the best thing about this app is that it was made in Singapore.
  •
Henry, please test this app out. It reportedly pulls videos from various databases.
  •
Tried out the apps. it pull lot of video from various sources. The layout like YouTube format.but search button not so obivous.

Social Media Is A Part Of The User Experience - 0 views

  •
this article mentioned the roles of implementing social media in their business. In the last few paragraphs, it was mentioned that there was so many community on different social media tools and these users do not know what is going on in other channels. This happened to the case in our scenario in CeL where we have so many portals and channels. How can users of these community actually see their responses, interactions across. This was very much inline with what we going for in our marketing plan. - to stage CeL website as a main hub to these channels.
