30 Greatest Online Project Management and Collaboration Tools For Easy Communication! - 0 views

Some web based project management while on the go. Most are good on their own but there's none that can cater totally to our needs such as good overview of projects at one glance to see overlaps or free cost of files management. CeLebs - do recommend me if you happen across any that at least has the above features :)

Augmented Reality Cosmetic Mirror in Tokyo - 1 views

  • Digital Cosmetic Mirror by industry giant Shiseido can be used to test make-up and recommendations without even having to pick up a mascara brush
  • Using augmented reality to do sampling is a novel way to involve consumers, and can be a useful technology for saving on waste
  • The terminal then gives you tailored recommendations. Pressing a few buttons on the touch-screen paints make-up onto your image in realtime, allowing you to see the results instantly. You also try out make-up that is currently making waves, along with printing out before and after photos with product information for you to go make the purchase of whichever colors caught your eye the most.

How to Stick with It When You're Learning Something New On Your Own - 1 views

  • Find What You Actually Want to Learn About First things first, you need to figure out what you're actually interested in.
  • Figure Out How You Learn Best Full sizeWe all learn a little differently, and while we're fans of learning by doing, you can't always do that with everything.
  • Learn By Doing Whenever Possible Full sizeIn most cases you're going to learn best by doing. That means practicing programming by actually making a program or learning a new language by speaking it. If you're having trouble getting over the learning hump and sticking with it, you might simply need to provide better context for the process.
  • ...1 more annotation...
  • Find a Community to Learn With Full sizeIt's no secret that many of us tend to learn a little better when we're surrounded by other people who are just as interested in the subject at hand. If you're struggling to stick with a learning program because of the inherent isolation of learning on your own, Stark recommends finding a community of like-minded people:
  •
In this brave new world of open courses and self-learning, we need to learn how to learn on our own - and one way is to learn to find other like-minded learners to learn together with.

I think Yeu Ann posted this elsewhere, so I am adding it here to keep a more permanent record. Lucidchart and MindMeister (see earlier bookmark) are now both linked to Google Drive. These present potential solutions to adding digital mind maps to our e-portfolio system.

Do you know if this works with Google Drive (and hopefully Google Sites)?

Xmind is using google code, will get Yeu Ann to check out the source code. http://code.google.com/p/xmind3/
  •
I've checked it out. Actually, it's not Google code, but simply an open-source native app stored in Google Projects, an open-source code repository. Nevertheless, it's a good mind-mapping software. Only thing is that it doesn't use Google Drive and I'm not sure if it can be integrated easily into Google Sites (due to Google Sites having issues with iframe elements).
  •
seems quite a good review for Mindomo, it's integrated to Google apps. http://www.mindomo.com/.
  •
I tried, cool! The map mind can be embedded in google site. Interface of mind map is easy to use, allow embed youtube link, images, and audio, attachment and links. Free for 3 mindmap and allow collaboration, invite is similar to Google for edit/read rights. There is also have icon, chat, comments and collaborative editing. Yeu Ann, we can include that as guide in student portfolio.
  •
Yeu Ann, I am referring to Mindomo :)
  •
Great! I'll try out the free account for the Mindomo next week. So I take it that you guys want to use this as the recommended mind-map app for our students?

Explore the use of the tool first and note its affordances and its limitations for now. If there is more than one option, we should support what is available and give users a choice.

The 15 Best Mobile Apps of 2011 - 1 views

I think what is "best" is subjective. If you ask users who have similar habits or preferences, they might recommend apps you would like. So try for yourself! :)

How Much Would An iPad Lab Cost Your School? | Edudemic - 0 views

  • The biggest obstacle to bringing the latest technology into the classroom is always cost. We always state this and generically nod our heads. However, how much exactly does it cost to, say, create an entire iPad lab? Lucky for you, one school system already did the math. Palm Beach County schools created a document outlining the cost and recommended cases for each iPad here. It is also embedded below and definitely wroth checking out. While each school has a different set of needs, this is a good jumping-off point to start thinking about real costs.

Google Drive Electronic Signature Integration | RightSignature Blog - 1 views

  •
Nice find. I wonder how many other folks in and outside NIE will be open to this form of signing. Maybe it is time to push those who are willing to explore this option!
  •
I have tried that. 5 forms for free version. Unlike Doodle, you can remove the old item and free up for new added item. Once the form is signed, no way to remove it. The paid version is USD$49 per month for business and mobile ready. I understand that CUS has also subscribed to some kind of signing software, will check that out.
  •
I understand from Lay Choo, It is also under CUS roadmap to implement signature software to campus if they find the signature software good. They are now using eSignDoc from softpro. I recommend RightSignature to her instead :)

iTunes U still competitive in online education (Stanford Daily) - 1 views

  • discuss issues together through Piazza, but ran into privacy issues and had to create three separate forums
    • Rachel Tan

Dr Ashley, I wonder what the privacy issues were. There is a fair amount of negative notes in this article that could work against our recommendation of iTunes U
  •
In 2007, videotaped lectures from 10 courses were added to the Stanford iTunes site. The content on the site consisted solely of audio and video files until January 2012, when Apple launched the iTunes U app. This app allowed professors to upload additional materials such as homework assignments and class handouts, giving remote students more of a comprehensive course experience. While remote students can now participate in a course by completing homework assignments and even taking exams, they are still not able to ask questions in class, receive feedback on homework and exams or collaborate with classmates. Several iTunes U courses have attempted to bridge this gap through Piazza, an online forum that allows students from around the world to ask and answer questions and discuss the course. Remote students are able to register on Piazza to discuss the lectures and assignments with other students, although Hegarty says that iTunes U students often reach out to him for help instead. https://piazza.com/ The (Free) Efficient Way to Manage Class Q&A How is this better than email, newsgroups, and discussion forums? Students actually use Piazza, they love it. This difference stems from how we built Piazza. We've personally met with and spoken to thousands of students and instructors. The result is a beautifully intuitive and simple product that students love and use.

Copyright Risks in Embedding YouTube Clips | The Blog Herald - 0 views

  •
This article was published in 2007, an ELL lecturer just shared it with me. I thought the rest of us would find it useful too.
  •
That article is 3.5 years old. It does not take into account clips shared under CC licence or the terms of fair use. If educators stuck only to the recommendations, they would make little progress.

Casual Game Design » Building a prototype - 0 views

  • Advantages Building a prototype has several advantages.
  • Find out if the game works
  • Try out different ideas
  • ...9 more annotations...
  • Balance game rules.
  • Ease communication
  • Get feedback
  • Kinds of prototypes
  • Pencil and paper
  • Board games
  • Graphics program
  • The most sophisticated prototype is of course the one that is programmed on a computer. Because you can build this kind of prototype any way you want, it will be most like the final game. A programmed prototype allows you to test aspects of your game that the before-mentioned prototypes lack, like user interface, controls and timing. A programmed prototype is also easy to share with other people and is therefore great for communication and soliciting feedback. Of all prototypes discussed, the programmed prototype takes the longest to create and is the hardest to change, so I recommend you start using it only after you have the basics of your game design and rules well in place.

  • The +1 button is shorthand for "this is pretty cool" or "you should check this out." Click +1 to publicly give something your stamp of approval. Your +1's can help friends, contacts, and others on the web find the best stuff when they search.
  • Sometimes it’s easier to find exactly what you’re looking for when someone you know already found it. Get recommendations for the things that interest you, right when you want them, in your search results.
  •
