After the Georgia State University ruling came down in 2012 Educause offered a live, interactive webinar featuring Kenneth Crews, one of the leading experts in the area of copyright law and educational fair use. Crews is (was) the director of the Copyright Advisory Office of the Columbia University Libraries. This page provides resources from the webinar, including a recording. However, this recording is of poor quality, especially the final 1/3 of the recording.

This is a useful starting point for exploring current news and activity in educational copyright issues and how fair use is being applied. Recent court cases are covered in the blog postings.

Even in this bookmark list, we use the term "flipped classroom". This article describes an attempt at a definition of "flipped learning", where the emphasis is on the student's learning process and not the logistics of the classroom. I think it provides a set of metrics which may be useful in examining anyone's pedagogy.

First, the title of this article caught my eye. Then the "new" definition of Digital Humanites caught my attention. Finally the author's comments caught me off-guard. I think people should read this for the initial content (what's promised by the title and the leading question). Also people might want to think about whether some of Sathian's remarks cross a line into stereotyping and racism.

This paper serves as a guide to starting a portfolio project. It focuses on the "learning portfolio" as a tool which encourages the student to reflect on their own learning, with special attention to their own progress. I was particularly taken with the point that a portfolio can be an appropriate tool at any level of the curriculum - an individual course or set of courses, the program or department level, or the whole institution - though of course, that choice will change the purpose of the portfolio, and therefore its design.

Like many people, I prefer to take notes on my computer rather than writing with a pen or pencil because I can type much faster than I can write longhand. The authors report on a study which indicates conceptual understanding is deepened when one takes notes by hand. The study points to benefits resulting from a greater level of "encoding" of the information because of "selective strategies" employed when a person can't simply type everything verbatim.
