It is the job of people like us to dig in and understand the types of behaviors these new environments can support and promote.

      This is a complicated question that I also try to manage. We recently had to have a conversation with our 8 year old about when it is OK to facetime other friends and family -- no, 10:00 at night is not ok to FT your younger cousin.

      Some of it has to do with only ever living in this environment. We are learning behavior, while they are simply going about behaving in the only way they've ever known.

Shortly after beginning, they texted a couple more classmates, who joined their discussion a few minutes later.

  • I noticed the iPad came with GarageBand preinstalled. As a sometimes composer I was curious to try it out, but when I try to open it it just closes right away. The same happens with Numbers, iTunes U, iMovie, Pages, and Keynote.

      Just open the App Store and install it.

  • iPad’s native app Mail, but I was not able to delete email.

      Install the Gmail app to get those extra features. Gmail prefers you "archive" messages than delete them. There is a setting in the gmail config that let's you delete instead of archive.
