Is that market responsible or necessary? We could question just how dangerous a new trend of "whistleblowers" could be. Sometimes, it must be admitted, that to be responsible to citizens and to their safety, the government must keep secrets. The question must result however, who has the authority to make the decisions regarding what can be released, and what good will the released information do to the citizens? Other than increasing transparency, is there really a function of sites like Wikileaks? Just a thought, not saying I have an opinion either way on it.

I was worried at first that this would be a difficult topic to research granted that I am in the SFS and have been explicitly warned to remain as far separated from Wikileaks as possible due to potential future implications. I was amazed however at how many webpages had hits regarding wikileaks and questions such as:

Can Amazon continue to offer their services without a prescreening process? Can PayPal refuse to allow members to fundraise for certain organizations and not others? If wikileaks does not keep track or in anyway monitor their contributors, how can we be sure the information is truthful and relevant? Can Facebook or other mediums of Social Networking be used to feed social revolt or uprisings? Can the internet ever truly foster freedom of speech? Does the American media fail at keeping the Government responsible to the American people and does Wikileaks have the authority to pick up the shortfall? Is the United states guilty of torture and what can be labeled as responsible action in war efforts?

I found all of these questions incredibly interesting and really took note of the question as to whether any of this information is truly shattering being that most of this information was already known by higher-reanked officials in many of the countries that have been said to be affected.
