While this isn't technically a post about the Common Core, in it Bill Ferriter does raise some excellent questions about curriculum that I think educators need to think about as they make the CCSS transition.

What about literature? Many teachers ask this when they learn of the CCSS's emphasis on informational text. 

Check out these global collaborative projects shared through iEARN that align to the Common Core.

Core Math Tools is a downloadable suite of interactive software tools for algebra and functions, geometry and trigonometry, and statistics and probability. The tools are appropriate for use with any high school mathematics curriculum and compatible with the Common Core State Standards for Mathematics in terms of content and mathematical practices. Java required.

I totally agree with the author's thoughts in this post. We don't need to wait for textbook companies to tell us what or how to teach!

All of these ideas here are tied to the units created by the folks at commoncore.org (which is NOT the official CCSS website...corestandards.org). However, even if you're not using their curriculum, this offers some interesting ideas about how to integrate art in a more in-depth, standards-based manner.

If you are in a PARCC state, this article provides some great information about what you can (tentatively) expect from the PARCC CCSS assessments.

What's that Olivia Newton John song? "Let's get political?" I can't remember. Either way, if you're planning to vote November 6 (and I desperately hope that you are), this is a must read. Getting the candidates to talk about education is always a challenge. 2012 is no exception. It's quite interesting to read Governor Romney's quotes on the Common Core, and specifically on standardized testing. President Obama is discussed briefly, too, although he doesn't seem to have too much to say on the education topic either. I'll leave it at that!

An update on where the CCSS stands now...and a look at where it might be headed thanks to Race to the Top grants in three states.

I learned about this site from Eric Sheninger's blog, A Principal's Reflections. It allows you to search Facing the Future's resources by Common Core State Standards. Great potential here when it comes to integrating global education into the Common Core.

Might help students and teachers alike! Really clarifies what each of the practices calls for.
