The 2011 lineup of Ford's Super Duty F-Series trucks may not look all that different from the models on the road today, but a lot has changed under the hood. In fact, in a vehicle segment dominated by talk of horsepower, torque, and towing capacity, the new F-Series Super Duty trucks may just change the game, and make such terms as "inclinometer," "Single-Sequential Turbocharger" (SST), and "compacted graphite iron" (CGI) the new language of heavy duty pickups.

The most common questions revolve around whether to adapt the Cummins to the Ford transmission or swap in the Dodge trans with the engine. It's done both ways, but many people think that the various Dodge truck automatics can't match the Ford 4R100 and 5R110 for beef-stock or modified.

The engine is sitting in the chassis, the cab is permanently attached, the body is mostly reassembled and now our tech Kurtis Reichley attacks some of the many details necessary to complete the project. By the time all the goodies below were installed, the swap was essentially done.

An AirDog II DF-165, 165 GPM unit was chosen to supply copious amounts of fuel to the built common rail. Because of the engine swap, Kurtis had to decide whether to adapt a Ford kit to the Cummins or vice versa. It looked easier to fit a Cummins kit than adapting a Ford kit, especially since a certain amount of plumbing changes had already been made to the Ford on the suction side.

The Big Three (Ford, GM and Ram) have been in a full-on diesel horsepower and torque war, with each company trying to outdo the other on a yearly basis. This means that the newest model trucks will often have the strongest frames, the best suspension, and the nicest interiors.

When Ford redesigned the Super Duty in 2011, it was an instant hit among Ford diesel enthusiasts. With 400 horsepower and 800 ft-lb of torque on tap, in a much more refined platform, the new Ford became the truck of choice for diesel performance companies to showcase their latest and greatest diesel products. A perfect example is the 2012 Ford F-350 owned by Tom Wood of St. George, Utah.

Nearly every man can remember his first love, and his first ride. Rarely are they one in the same, unless you ask Brandon Fenner of Sciota, Pennsylvania. His father handed over the keys to a 2001 F-250 Super Duty when Brandon turned 15 and since that time, he's turned the truck into an ongoing project while still getting to drive his first set of wheels on a daily basis.

What sets Brandon's Super Duty apart from the rest of the farm trucks in his area is the wild blue flame paint job that's accented with green pinstriping. Before painting, the truck was fitted with a steel cowl-induction hood and billet grille.

Our 2000 7.3-liter Power Stroke Super Duty project is now on the street and the results of the multi-part build are greater than expected. We first rolled onto the pavement after leaving Unlimited Diesel Performance a little more than a week ago.
