Cummins into Super Duty - 0 views

  •
An AirDog II DF-165, 165 GPM unit was chosen to supply copious amounts of fuel to the built common rail. Because of the engine swap, Kurtis had to decide whether to adapt a Ford kit to the Cummins or vice versa. It looked easier to fit a Cummins kit than adapting a Ford kit, especially since a certain amount of plumbing changes had already been made to the Ford on the suction side.

Dropping a Cummins Into a Super Duty: THE TRANSMISSION QUESTION - 0 views

  •
The most common questions revolve around whether to adapt the Cummins to the Ford transmission or swap in the Dodge trans with the engine. It's done both ways, but many people think that the various Dodge truck automatics can't match the Ford 4R100 and 5R110 for beef-stock or modified.

Readers' Rides: Cummins-Powered King Ranch - 0 views

  •
David Bradley is a diesel conversion specialist out of Montana, so it makes sense for him to have a truck with a conversion in it. His King Ranch Ford sports a 2003 common rail 5.9 Cummins engine. David says that this engine provides him more reliability, power and MPG than any of the Ford motor options. Hey, Ford fans, he likes the body and frame better on the Fords.

The engine is sitting in the chassis, the cab is permanently attached, the body is mostly reassembled and now our tech Kurtis Reichley attacks some of the many details necessary to complete the project. By the time all the goodies below were installed, the swap was essentially done.

Engineered: A 700-HP 6.7L Cummins - 0 views

  •
As a mechanical engineer, your mind becomes programmed a certain way and everything needs to serve a purpose. Everything needs to be precise and it needs to be able to stand the test of time. In the case of this 2007.5 6.7L Dodge Cummins, owned by Nick Child of Price, Utah, who just happens to be a mechanical engineering student at the University of Utah, it's been built with those three main principles in mind.

Coal Blooded- Cummins-powered Square 'Burb - 0 views

  •
Trying to be a little different, Paul Wheeler of Ohio traded his custom '94 Silverado for this '84 Suburban that already had some work done to it. He started reworking the frame and suspension at his friend Jason Freeman's barn and his parent's garage with help from Jason Burkett and Freeman.

Cummins 4BT 101: 4BT Basics And Performance Options - 0 views

The popularity of diesel-powered vehicles here in the U.S. has really jumped in a positive direction in recent years. More and more manufacturers are starting to offer all-new diesel powerplants in half-ton trucks, cars and midsize SUVs-the introduction of a 3.0L diesel in the new Ram 1500 trucks, an EcoDiesel in the latest Chevrolet Cruze passenger car and there's even been talk of a 4.5L Duramax coming down the pipeline.

Cummins Gone Crazy: Go Big Or Go Home - 0 views

You would think that a bright red Dodge Mega Cab 4×4 diesel would attract plenty of attention on its own. But give it 14 inches of lift, wide 40-inch tires and custom touches both inside and out and you end up with a truck that REALLY stands out in a crowd.

Dual Fuel - 0 views

  •
There comes a time in every modified common rail diesel's life when the stock high-pressure pump can't keep up with the fuel pressure needed from higher fuel demand. This is what happened with the 6.7L Cummins in our '02 F-350 swap truck.

Old School K30 Chevy - 0 views

Originally the build started with the purchase of a raw '81 Chevy 1-ton chassis, and then the father and son team went to work restoring and rebuilding the truck from the ground up. Like the engine, the suspension has gone through many revisions before landing at the current combination of lift and wheels/tires. It has ranged from a 4-inch lift running 33-inch tires all the way up to 12 inches of lift with 39-inch Boggers.

For gearheads like us, father and son projects are about as good as it gets when it comes to home-built rigs. This 1981 Chevrolet K30 1-ton pickup is a great example of a well-built father and son project that Bryce Schopmeyer and his father, Roger, completed over a three-year build. The Schopmeyers did most of the work themselves in their barn in Bowling Green, Indiana, leaning on expert help with the paint and bodywork as well as diesel performance.

Improve The Braking Of Your 6.7L With The Load Leash From Pacbrake - 0 views

  •
Owners of the Ram truck with the ISB 6.7L Cummins engine have been blessed with a factory exhaust brake from the beginning. This exhaust brake uses the variable geometry turbo on these engines to increase back pressure and thus improve engine braking, when the OEM unit is engaged.

Nature or nurture? That's the eternal argument over whether or not automotive enthusiasts are born or raised that way. For most of us-including Johnny Ramirez of Payette, Idaho- being an automotive enthusiast is a learned behavior. It usually starts with toy cars as a child, and progresses to more expensive toys as we get older.
