This is important so you can find them again!

This is for the iTouch - but it also works on Android devices pretty much the same way

I like that audioboo is an app. I am pretty much connected to my iphone (it's an extension of my arm) and audioboo seemed to be the only one that was mentioned that had an iphone app.

Dan found this site - for creating online activities with voice recording that incorporate images and video. Limited free version, but only $79/year for the full version.

Online tools for helping foreign language teachers and students get the most out of language education. I have been using this site for few years now. Mira Angrist

I've used this and really like it. The kids adapted to it very easily. You can have students type or record answers to audio, video, or photo prompts. You can also send back verbal feedback! One caution though, we had we not able to get the recording to work with Google Chrome on our 2010 MacBooks. Worked flawlessly in Safari. We're getting new laptops this year, so I'll have to see if we have the same problems. Will keep you posted on that.

The perils of electronic translation - 3 views

  • I made sure that they understood why I felt using a translator for work that the students were supposed to do is plagiarism. This has to be the first step.

Teaching students how (not) to use technology for effective learning is part of our job as language educators.

We have had some rather unpleasant situations recently with students using Google translate to write essays outside class. I agree that the policy has to be clear and that the implications have to be as well. Several instructors have moved to doing all essay writing in class.
  • On one of the very first days, I take the lyrics of a popular song that most students would know and paste it into a translator.

Own Your Space - Online Safety Ebook for Teens - 0 views

  •
From Richard Byrne's blog: "Own Your Space is a free, sixteen chapter ebook designed to educate tweens and teens about protecting themselves and their stuff online. This ebook isn't a fluffy, general overview book. Each chapter goes into great detail explaining the technical threats that students' computers face online as well as the personal threats to data that students can face online." It's free, downloadable, and it looks to me like it should be read by any student with internet access - and their parents and teachers!!!
