Larry Ferlazzo writes a column for the New York Times about using the NYT for ELLs - but these ideas could easily be adapted for FL teachers using news sites, too. You should also check out Ferlazzo's blog.
Good ideas - I could see Tip #2 as a great starter project in language for level 2 and above. Alyssa and I do the weekly video updates, pretty much just like three points listed here - and we've also gotten good feedback on those.

How can iPads enrich language acquisition? In this session, results from a 1:1 iPad pilot program in a foreign
language classroom will be analyzed Lesson plans, activities and assessments will be shared and strategies for applying best practices, even in classrooms without iPads, will be discussed.
I work with language teachers, teaching them uses of technology for language teaching and learning. I have a special interest in the preparation language teachers need to teach online.
