Free Technology for Teachers: Odyssey.js - A New Way to Create Mapped Stories - 0 views

  •
    R. Byrne: "Odyssey.js is a new open source map creation tool from CartoDB. Through Odyssey.js you can create mapped stories in three formats; slide, scroll, and torque. In all three formats viewers will see a location on a map along with the text and pictures of your story. The slide and scroll formats are fairly straight-forward, you click through slides or scroll through a story. The torque format allows you to connect elements of your map to a timeline." This tool could be used to map history, parts of novels, the immigration of peoples, the expansion of wars, etc. Mapping and visualization are always good to enhance learning.

ClassTools.net: Create interactive flash tools / games for education - 13 views

This is such a fun site -- you can make Arcade-like games -- or your students can do it for each other. Has dozens of interesting activities as well, such as a QR game generator, jigsaw puzzle, animated book, timeline, fishbone chart, etc. Mouse over the list of Templates to find a visual preview of each activity. One of the most useful sites I've found.

5 EASY Techie Tools for Social Studies Projects - The Techie Teacher - 0 views

  •
These tools might also be of great use for other kinds of content-based projects and learning activities. For middle and upper grades as well as adults: Scribble Maps (an easier version of Google Earth/Maps), which includes pencil tools for drawing on the map; Presentations within Google Classroom, used by the students; Newspaper Generator to summarize main ideas; Timeline Maker, with a link to a planner activity and reference to another on ReadWriteThink; and Fakebook, a Facebook-like application for historical figures on ClassTools.net. Very useful blog with many other tools and activities. Social studies oriented.

VideoNot.es - 5 views

  •
This looks like a great invention. As you are watching a video, take notes and the timeline codes will automatically link your notes to the portion of the video you were watching. The note tool will embed your video from YouTube, Khan Academy, or any of a number of sites, with the note-taking apparatus beside the video. Students might take notes of you or another lecturer in a flipped environment, and then compare each other's notes for review. Appears to be free so far.
