Text analytics, the analysis of open-ended responses on questionnaires, could become the new wave of teacher/student evaluation. Teachers don't have time to read comments from student surveys, but that's where the most valuable information resides. But a chat bot could use text analysis to dig out and compile action points that might make an impact on learning. You can try out Hubert the chatbot by signing up at a link in this article.

Socrative http://socrative.com/ can be used to collect anonymouse questions and answers, ie, a survey, send a short quic to your students, including pictures/images, and se a space race game to moe rocket ship across the screen as a team (or individuals). Links to tutorial videos as well.

An interesting blog posting on how to design an instructional course and whether one should use concept mapping, questions, multiple sessions, etc. A case study with built-in short surveys to take you through.

"Have students create a Pinterest board with 10 pins that summarizes them. Ask students to create a 30 second podcast that introduces themselves. Then allow students to present them or play them on separate devices as an audio gallery. Create a classroom blog and ask each student to write a blog post introducing themselves to the rest of the classroom. Have students create a quick comic strip to describe themselves or to recreate a recent funny moment in their lives. Use PollEverywhere to ask students interesting questions and get to know them as a class, like their favorite subjects, bands or TV shows. Use GoogleForms or SurveyMonkey to survey students about their interests, academic inclinations, and background info - a 21st century alternative to the "Getting to Know You" info sheet! Have students create word clouds to describe themselves and share with the rest of the class. Have students go on a QR code scavenger hunt in teams to get to know each other and learn about your classroom rules in a fun, engaging way. Ask students to create their own Voki avatars that introduce themselves to the class. Encourage them to be creative with the backgrounds, characters and details of the avatar to reflect their own personalities and preferences. Have students create graffiti online that speaks to their interests and personalities and share with the class." A nice set of ready-made lessons using readily available apps on the computer.

An interesting study showing that teachers gave students lowest ratings on issues of fair use and copyright.

Jeff Magoto has done a great presentation on how to use ANVILL, which is a wonderful, free, A/V tool available now internationally.

This looks like a set of very useful tools to use online and off.

"What is qualitative formative assessment? Some call it anecdotal or informal assessment. However, such designations imply passivity -- as if certain things were captured accidentally. I believe the word "formative" should always be included with the word assessment because all feedback mechanisms should help shape and improve the person (or situation) being assessed. Richards discusses using mobile tools for on the spot assessment in a variety of ways.

This set of questions is very inclusive and should help you creative good projects. The questions are conveniently categorized as "simple," "basic," etc. through "complex," so you can choose whether to do a quick survey of your planning or a thorough scan, perhaps for a more long-term project. These questions would also be useful for content-based learning.

"This article examines the use of both game-based learning (GBL) and gamification in tertiary education. This study focuses specifically on the use of games and/or simulations as well as familiarity with gamification strategies by communication faculty. Research questions concentrate on the rate, frequency, and usage of digital and non-digital games and/or simulations in communication courses, as well as instructor familiarity with gamification. A survey was constructed with questions emerging from the game-based learning and gamification literature. It was distributed to communication faculty at public institutions of higher education in a southern state. In this context, the author argues that while the term gamification is novel, the approach is not. Based on the results, current gamification strategies appear to be a repackaging of traditional instructional strategies."

These templates include ways to collect contact info and emails on a website, event registration, website feedback, a self-check quiz, poll or voting; and links to ways to create your own forms and use forms creatively.

DLIST is a cross-institutional, subject-based, open access digital archive for the Information Sciences, including Archives and Records Management, Library and Information Science, Information Systems, Museum Informatics, and other critical information infrastructures.

The tools can then be accessed with these details. ... The site is managed and maintained by Ron Oliver who can be contacted with queries if the need arises. The site is a development site and has new tools in development and fixes being made to existing tools." Looks to be a very interesting set of online tools with modest interfaces. Suggestions for uses with students are pedagogically sound.
