How a classroom blog with 2-3rd grades (ages7-9) can "flatten" the classroom walls. The teacher starts by teaching how to write a quality blog. The video includes comments in a video made by the students themselves. (Very cute.) Students also learned about Internet safety practices. Learning goes on well beyond the class hours and the local culture. Students also Skype with students in other countries.

Four reasons your school should use Facebook | Dr. Brian J. Dixon - 1 views

  •
"Communicating with and engaging your school community (parents, students, and donors) is essential is growing a great school. Facebook is a tool that school principals, admissions directors, and development teams should use to build this engagement. Here are four great reasons to use Facebook as a central tool for your school's engagement strategy" These 4 are ease of use, accessibility, ubiquity, and ease of management. Most of these reasons are the same as for blogs, but Fb seems the hot one today, and it is pretty easy to use. One important feature is that you can now put all your schools accounts in one place, and you and/or your students can protect page access. This should salve the worries about Internet safety. One problem may remain: Fb does get shut down in various countries for a variety of political reasons. Caveat user!

Six ways to keep teenagers safe online | Macworld - 1 views

  •
"A few years ago, all I had to do to keep my kids safe online was set up the family computer in a well-trafficked room and walk by every so often. Now, my daughters are 12 and 14, and each has her own iPhone. Their online lives are lived in WhatsApp, Facebook comments, texts, and occasional emails. They regularly interact with kids I've never met. While they're (probably) smart enough not to reveal information to strangers they've never met, my daughters are at risk for cyberbullying (both being bullied and being bullies), overexposure on social networks, and even sexual solicitation. " Some good cyber rules to keep kids from destroying their own lives.
