Quizlet is one of the most flexible self-teaching tools available online. It offers far more than quizes: Good for self-practice, flashcards, vocabulary study, etc. All the multimedia you want and students can create their own practices. This pdf booklet/Google presentation helps you get started with distance learning.

Similar to the new version of Google Docs, Sync.in lets online writers collaborate in real-time, seeing what each one writes, and even replaying a recording of the developing text (or chat).

What does dipity do? It is a timeline maker, but you can use it to make a personal timeline of materials you create at other sites, such as Facebook, Slideshare, etc. This might be a good tool for haing students create a visual electronic portfolio. I would think you could, for instance, add an embedded Google doc or presentation, inter alia. Let the group know if you have tried this with students.

A collaborative writing site where you invite users to join you inworking on a document. More manageable than Google Docs has now become. Would be useable by middle school learners.

This page has short readings. After reading your time will be displayed and there are a couple of comprehension questions. Good for additional reading practice. You could assign a class a reading and then have them write about it at Google Docs.

Students could write their articles in Google Docs, find appropriate illustrations online, and then publish a class e-zine. Great tool and free!

And in some ways, you'd be right: In Webjets, users create boards where they gather items on cards, placing these on a desktop that feels like a bulletin board. "But with Webjets, these cards work even harder than they do on Padlet, and they come in a variety of formats: A card can contain an image, an embedded video, a live Google Doc, an attached file, or a table containing a variety of elements organized into columns. Probably the best feature is that cards can be collected into folders, where the items are listed along the left, and the selected item appears in a larger window on the right. You can keep multiple folders on one board, and all cards can be collapsed or expanded, making it easy to neatly collect large amounts of resources all in one place. Some of these may be gone tomorrow, but they are of interest: Padlet for posting introductions, Xtranormal (animated shorts), PollDaddy, Google Forms (for gathering info), Fotobabble (to record explanatory messages to go with scanned docs or images), Remind101 (to send messages to partents or to a group), Screenr for explanatory screencasts, Audioboo to record message to share on a website, and Smore to create colorful flyers. D. Borgeson uses these with his third grade (9 yrs old) class.

There is no organizational system to speak of, but there are lots of good tips and tricks for teachers in each of the categories of short video clips in this cloud-sourced site. Good science and math clips, but many other subjects as well. You'll have to comb through the folders to see.

These are inventive and will keep students guessing while enabling you to find out what they know -- or don't. This is a slideshow that can be played automatically, and is under CC so can be freely copied and used.

A set of G-slides that can be used for writing a novel. This approach really works with short stories and poetry, and over the course of a semester or year term would work for a longer effort. Makes a great project for group effort as well. My niece wrote a novel in 2nd year of secondary school, and self-published on Amazon. Great idea for teaching writing, critical thinking, and long-range planning.
