Not sure why you sent that link as a email instead of posting it Jaime, but it is very interesting. This is really interesting as a tech development. Will this idea catch on, do people want things not "with them" what if Google goes under what happens to that data? For us I think it is a problem because it would mean so much of students work is stored out of the country, out of the district (this is an advantage to Moodle). Personally I am intrigued but cautious, I don't like subscription service for something as key as my data. While it may protect me from my hard drive crashing and not having a back up it doesn't protect me from Google jacking up my subscription fee.

I think I emailed it because I have to constantly redownload the diigo bookmark app (due to deep freeze) and couldn't be bothered that day. i find the migration to cloud-based storage interesting...i ditched my usb drive over a year ago to store everything online. i have some documents on google docs, and some in dropbox....but (knock on wood), it hasn't been a problem so far to actually get to my items. the only problem is relying on school-based networks. but then again, schools that implement ipads would have the same problems, and i think more can be created/done with a laptop, so maybe google is on to something. my ipad2 arrived yesterday, and i got a bit tired of holding it at a nice viewing angle (i know, i have weak arms), so this morning, i am doing my online stuff from laptop. i think i'll have to buy a nice stand for it before i can start to use it as much as my laptop.

Lots of little tips on how to use google apps in school settings. i didn't know there was a flashcard gadget on google-spreadsheets. and their ideas on different ways to use Forms would be great once there's enough access to laptops/devices.

Schools get wireless internet - The Sarnia Observer - Ontario, CA - 0 views

  • Students can't access websites like Facebook or YouTube because of inappropriate material, Vanstone said, but teachers can still use the sites for lessons.
  • inappropriate material, Vanstone said, but teachers can still use the sites for lessons."When it's handled by a teacher who understands the technology and uses it effectively it can be a great experience for the students," he said.Wi-Fi also allows more access points at the school, said SCITS principal Linda Jared, noting students use iPods and smart phones as mobile dictionaries or periodic tables."If you think of the information superhighway, we're kind of providing the onramp to that," said education director Jim Costello. "What we're seeing is kids are now bringing the car."Board officials are holding an internal symposium with teachers and students on April 8 to discuss the next four years of their information technology strategy.tkula@theobserver.caFor breaking news go to theobserver.ca, or check us out on Facebook. Using QR Codes in your classroom - 1 views

  •
I can actually see how we might do this with students' mobile devices. Guilt relief here too :)
  •
Personally I have had no luck with QR codes, my understanding it that they do not work with iPhone 3G. You need 3GS or later. That being said I think there is some potential here, especially in terms of getting students quickly to sites when you are using some kind of presentation. I think it could also be a tool to teach to kids and get them to use in projects and assignments especially if we start veering away from the traditional type of assignments.
  •
are you serious? Steve Jobs has also banned QR codes?? i haven't used QR codes in my class, but i do like how i can scan one and avoid typing in a url. i mostly find myself scanning QR codes for apps to download. on a related note, google has discontinued QR codes in for google Places... a thing i saw in the states (noticed it in Portland, OR) where businesses would have a sticker in their window. it seemed a bit like yelp.
