didn't listen to the TED talk so maybe as a group? Liked the idea of flipping the classroom a lot and trying to figure out how to use wireless for generating questions. We should talk about that, it is primarily a question of getting the right app (I think). I also like the text book node thing but I don't totally get it.

Schools get wireless internet - The Sarnia Observer - Ontario, CA - 0 views

  • Students can't access websites like Facebook or YouTube because of inappropriate material, Vanstone said, but teachers can still use the sites for lessons.
  • inappropriate material, Vanstone said, but teachers can still use the sites for lessons."When it's handled by a teacher who understands the technology and uses it effectively it can be a great experience for the students," he said.Wi-Fi also allows more access points at the school, said SCITS principal Linda Jared, noting students use iPods and smart phones as mobile dictionaries or periodic tables."If you think of the information superhighway, we're kind of providing the onramp to that," said education director Jim Costello. "What we're seeing is kids are now bringing the car."Board officials are holding an internal symposium with teachers and students on April 8 to discuss the next four years of their information technology strategy.tkula@theobserver.caFor breaking news go to theobserver.ca, or check us out on Facebook. This is probably more of a district issue, but I am sure there are students here that it applies to and they are not going to be quick to point it out

Not sure why you sent that link as a email instead of posting it Jaime, but it is very interesting. This is really interesting as a tech development. Will this idea catch on, do people want things not "with them" what if Google goes under what happens to that data? For us I think it is a problem because it would mean so much of students work is stored out of the country, out of the district (this is an advantage to Moodle). Personally I am intrigued but cautious, I don't like subscription service for something as key as my data. While it may protect me from my hard drive crashing and not having a back up it doesn't protect me from Google jacking up my subscription fee.

I think I emailed it because I have to constantly redownload the diigo bookmark app (due to deep freeze) and couldn't be bothered that day. i find the migration to cloud-based storage interesting...i ditched my usb drive over a year ago to store everything online. i have some documents on google docs, and some in dropbox....but (knock on wood), it hasn't been a problem so far to actually get to my items. the only problem is relying on school-based networks. but then again, schools that implement ipads would have the same problems, and i think more can be created/done with a laptop, so maybe google is on to something. my ipad2 arrived yesterday, and i got a bit tired of holding it at a nice viewing angle (i know, i have weak arms), so this morning, i am doing my online stuff from laptop. i think i'll have to buy a nice stand for it before i can start to use it as much as my laptop.
