NASA's DEVELOP Program -- 2012 Spring and Summer Sessions DEVELOP is a NASA Science Mission Directorate Applied Sciences-sponsored internship that fosters the training and development of students in the atmospheric and earth sciences. The DEVELOP Program extends the application of NASA earth science research and technology to meet societal needs. Students conduct projects that focus on the practical application of NASA's earth science research and demonstrate how results can benefit partner organizations and local communities.

The Kentucky Wing Design Competition (KWDC) competition is sponsored by NASA Kentucky and is intended to provide an introduction to aircraft design. Student teams will design, fabricate, and demonstrate the flight capabilities of a wing to replace the stock Hobbico® NexSTAR™ wing. The goal of the competition is to design and build a high-performance wing, while demonstrating a balance between practical and affordable manufacturing techniques and good flight characteristics. The design objective is to produce a wing that, when mounted on the NexSTAR™ fuselage, has a high payload-to-wing-weight ratio and is efficient for high-speed flight.

John Burroughs High School in Burbank, Calif. David Vezina had given up a job piloting Learjets to teach kids about aviation. In addition to providing real airplanes to high schools and other interested groups, Build A Plane is working with the National Educational Association, the Wathen Foundation, the FAA, NASA and several key aviation and aerospace organizations to create an aviation-based curricula that teaches science, technology, engineering and math. And for groups that don't have the room or the faculty to construct real aircraft, Build A Plane will soon release a software package and lesson guide that will allow kids to build airplanes virtually.

NASA Space Grant ESCAPE to Alaska Summer Camp The Alaska Space Grant Program in partnership with NASA invites students and teachers to a summer camp opportunity at the University of Alaska Fairbanks. ASGP/NASA will provide training and experiences for students and teachers in science, technology, engineering and mathematics fields. The camp is a one-week professional development program for educators of grades 7-12 and a one-week academic summer program for students entering grades 8-12 in the fall. Attendees have the opportunity to choose from two modules - "FIRST Tech Challenge Robotics Training" and "Energy in Alaska." Camp sessions take place in mid-June. Applications are due June 4, 2011.

NASA | Art: 50 Years of Exploration Exhibit For almost 50 years, artists participating in the NASA art program have been documenting the extraordinary adventure of spaceflight in ways no camera could match. They have enjoyed access to some epic moments and offered their unique perspectives on what they have witnessed.
