Where Do Butterflies Come From? - 1 views

I just loved this craft activity. It would be the perfect activity to do after you talked about the life cycle of a butterfly. This gives the kids who need more hands on activity the ability to explain what happens to a butterfly. After they make it have the students talk about the cycle in their own words.

Making a battery | SEP LESSONS - 1 views

  • This is a great opportunity to talk about electricity as a form of energy and its conversion into heat, light and motion, and vice versa. Also, it's a good time to discuss how a power plant works and perhaps organize a field trip to a wind farm, solar energy farm, or power plant. Solar panels make very exciting demos and are avaiable at SEP. Also, consider helping make your school a solar school.

4-Effects-of-Glaciers.pdf (application/pdf Object) - 1 views

  •
Prior to this experiment students need to learn about erosion and weathering. It would be a good idea for the students to work in pairs for the research. Then during the experiment have them draw a picture to represent what happens, if able also write their observations in complete sentences

ISM Geology Online - Lesson Plan 4.2: Exploring Rocks - 1 views

  • Extensions: Special needs students could draw their rocks and/or verbally describe them to other students, who can scribe for them. Request a set of Illinois Rocks and Minerals from the State Geological Survey. Display these samples and labels with the classroom set of rocks. Comparisons can be made as lessons progress.

This is a good game for everyone. You can even do teams - which ever team can make the number correctly first wins. This way team mates can help each other.

Lesson Plans: Clipping Coupons (Middle, Mathematics) - 2 views

I really like the real world concept with this lesson. There might be multicultural considerations (like never seeing or using a coupon), might need to expand on definitions.
  • Adaptations:
  • The lesson can be adapted for by allowing the use of calculators if the idea that the prices are added and subtracted is the only concept that is being emphasized. • Prices and discounts could be pre-determined and filled-in on worksheets.
  • ...1 more annotation...
  • Multicultural considerations: • In some cultures it may not be acceptable for children to request items while shopping. This is an issue that must be kept in the mind of the teacher while teaching in order to detour any conversation which might offend a student who is not permitted to make requests while in the store. • Some students may come from homes where coupons have never been used. In this case it would be necessary to briefly expand upon the definition of a coupon.

Lesson Plans: Symmetry (all, Mathematics) - 1 views

I like this symmetry lesson, especially the part when students will switch desks and do the other half of their neighbors design. This concept also leads well into Art (butterflies) and literature. This lesson could be for any grade just by changing the object they use for symmetry.
