"MARTINSBURG - A clearly moved Ted Anderson, the soon-to-be-retired Martinsburg City Police chief, was among more than a dozen of the Panhandle's finest who were honored Sunday at the Martinsburg Elks Lodge's annual Law and Safety Day dinner."

The Blairsville Elks will hold its annual Flag Day service at 6 p.m. Sunday at the Blairsville Cemetery, where Elks' officers will conduct a ceremony honoring the history of the country's flag. Also, the Marine Corps League Rolling Rock Detachment No. 738 will assist with the proper retirement of flags. Snacks will be provided and refreshments will be available at the Elks Lodge at North Stewart and Campbell streets. In the event of rain, the ceremony will be held at the Elks Lodge.

The semi-retired Grand Island salesman is making sure that the Re-Creations - a college-age traveling entertainment group for hospitalized veterans - makes it to the city for the group's 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. Tuesday shows in Grand Island at the Veterans Medical Center and Veterans Home, respectively.
