Moreno Valley Elks Lodge No. 2697 has a new home. After beingon Alessandro Boulevard near Frederick Street since 1985, the group is moving to a new building at Canyon Springs Plaza by Highway 60. "This new place will give us the opportunity to grow and be more involved with the community," said Luella McCabe, the group's Building Chairman and Past Exalted Ruler. Renovation of the new location took about 2 ½ years, but members said it's well worth the wait.

New Egypt Elks to host Touch-A-Truck The New Egypt Elks and the New Egypt United Methodist Church are sponsoring "Touch a Truck" from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. April 25 at the New Egypt Elks, Lakewood Road (Route 528), Plumsted. Various modes of transportation will be on display to touch, climb and take pictures alongside. The festivities will include music and activities. Food will be available for purchase. Wow! SC has added a lodge in Fort Mill a few weeks ago and now one in Pendleton. In recent years, there have been Conway & Little river. Perhaps one more. All this made more possible by the change in the numbers needed (from 100 to 50) to request dispensation to form a lodge! I wonder who had the timerity to propose such a resolution?? Why Salisbury Elks 699!

PENDLETON - A new Pendleton Elks Lodge will be instituted this weekend. About 75 members will be part of the ceremony set to start at 3 p.m. Saturday at the Greenville Elks Lodge, said Jim Vogel, a spokesman for the Pendleton Lodge. Ceremonies on Saturday include institution of the new lodge, initiation of new members and installation of officers, Vogel said. The Greenville lodge is at 7700 Pelham Road.

The South Hills Elks new membership drive is off to a stupendous start! The Elks welcomed and installed 18 new Elks on Tuesday night May 12 at the Lodge. The New Elks were instructed on our virtues, bylaws and our Charity mission. The South Hills Elks is dedicated to assisting the youth of the South Hills along with the Veterans of the Pittsburgh area.

good news that something is being preserved from McCook. The bad news is that it lost it's charter. This was one hell of a lodge in it's day. The fact is that the GL is mostly responsible for the demise of this lodge and the dramatic loss of membership. nebraska is down 77% from 1985. and that was as of 2014. Down to 7,000 from 32,000. HUGE drop that can only be attributed to leadership (or lack of).

The USS New York -- the Navy's newest amphibious assault ship -- is special in that its bow is forged with 7.5 tons of steel salvaged from the Twin Towers. Having arrived in Manhattan on Monday, the ship is being formally commissioned today."

Odd.. I wonder if the news of this questionable decision on elks.org caused someone to rethink the closing. If one checks quidestar for the lodge's financials one would see that they were in above average shape.

EVERETT - It's not as big as the grand old place, but it's brand spanking new, it's a room with a view and they can call it their own. After nearly two years of meeting in a temporary location, the Elks Club has moved into its new digs at 2802 Hoyt Ave., at the intersection with California Street. The club has been using the meeting room on the main floor and the lounge on the second floor since early July. The lounge has a view of Possession Sound.

"Tiffin Elks Lodge 94 is celebrating 127 years in Tiffin. Exalted Ruler Joe Steinmetz, who joined the lodge seven years ago, is helping plan the event with other members. Why celebrate 127 years? "We want to commemorate 127 years of benevolence in Tiffin and celebrate another 100 years of active involvement in our community," Steinmetz said. Friday, dinner and live entertainment will take place for members and guests. Events Saturday are open to the public at 106 E. Perry St. Indoor and outdoor activities are to continue all day Saturday, with proceeds to benefit Disabled American Veterans. At 8 a.m., registration opens for a 5K run or 1K walk. An opening ceremony is at 9:30 a.m. and the race steps off at 10 a.m., following a route along Riverside Drive and downtown Tiffin. Registration for the 5K and 1K can be done up to the day of the race at $15 per person. The age groups are: 12 and under; 13-19; 20-34; 35-50; and over 50. Forms can be obtained at the Elks, Clover Club, Madison Street Tavern, Varsity Barber Shop, Champs Barber Shop, Pit Stop, Reino's and Ace Hardware. Checks should be made payable to Tiffin Elks Lodge 94. A grill and beverage bar opens at noon to serve all day. A mini-golf challenge and cornhole tournament are to begin at 1 p.m. in the parking lot. The cost is $20 per team for the cornhole tournament. "The Stavely Elks have presented the Nanton Children Society with a cheque for $2,500 for new playground equipment. The new playground system will help replace the system located at Centennial Park. Other playground systems will be developed at Nanton Lion's Park and in Westview. "

New Egypt Elks Lodge #2457 recently constructed 10 handicapped accessible picnic tables for the Vineland Veteran's Home. Advertisement Lumber was generously donated by Pro-Build of Lakewood and Ace Hardware of New Egypt. Lodge members delivered the tables as well as sundae toppings and supplies for the veterans to enjoy an ice cream social.

MATILLA, Florida - Saw it with my own eyes. The Elks, that would be the Benevolent Order of Elks, are recruiting members and advertising themselves with Yahoo banner ads. Good job. In our Bowling Alone era, most hereditary and benevolent societies are struggling, and none more struggling than what were traditionally male benevolent groups. All of these groups still play a strong part in our culture, millions of members, though they are mostly forgotten by the media. If you read The New York Times, you wouldn't even know they exist. But the Jaycees, Rotary, Kiwanis, Sertoma and Knights of Columbus all still soldier on, though members are getting older and these groups must attract new members to stay viable.

By Ben Bromley / News Republic You might think a title like "exalted ruler" would come with a golden scepter or a foppish hat, but Dorothy Alt has neither. What she has instead is a historic title: She's the first woman to lead the Baraboo Elks Lodge.

It's hard to believe that a lodge this old would lose so many members or attract so few new members that it had to sell it's golf course. I don't know what kind of shape the course was in but if in decent shape then only mismanagment over the years could be the only reason its gone.

The Grand Lodge membership report shows they went from 295 to 104 members in five years. That's pretty disturbing.
