You might think a title like "exalted ruler" would come with a golden scepter or a foppish hat, but Dorothy Alt has neither. What she has instead is a historic title: She's the first woman to lead the Baraboo Elks Lodge.

The Elks club picked eight high school seniors to pair up with local leaders for the annual Elks' Youth Leadership Day. Six of the students were from Bayonne High School, one was from Holy Family Academy, and one from St. Peter's Prep.
Fond du Lac Elks Lodge 57, of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks, is hosting the 2009 State Spring Convention of the Wisconsin Elks Association.

The event will run from April 30 to May 3 and hundreds of Elks from lodges throughout the state are expected to attend, according to a press release from the lodge.
"We are pleased and proud to host national and state Elks leaders and so many Elk members from around Wisconsin who will be in Fond du Lac for our State Convention, and to show off our beautifully redecorated lodge building," said Brian Lorrigan, current Exalted Ruler of the Fond du Lac Lodge. "We look forward to partnering with our city's many hotels, motels, restaurants and businesses to give a warm welcome from the city and show the many nice things Fond du Lac has to offer."
Bobbie Galbraith has been an active member of the Petaluma Elks Lodge No. 901 for eight years, but never imagined that she'd be nominated as the club's first woman to serve as exalted ruler (president).

"They kept asking me over the years when I was going to be exalted ruler and I'd say I was just busy circling the chairs right now," said Galbraith, who has served in a number of different offices within the club. "I've gone through the chairs now and have paid my dues. It's such an honor to be named exalted ruler. Everyone has been so supportive of me."
The future of the Albert Lea Elks Lodge remains uncertain, but Elks officials have told service clubs and other groups to find a new meeting place.
Elks officials told these groups the building will be closed to them starting Sept. 1. Negotiations for a possible sale of the building are happening, leaving everyone from employees to the regional leaders waiting to see what happens.
good news that something is being preserved from McCook. The bad news is that it lost it's charter. This was one hell of a lodge in it's day. The fact is that the GL is mostly responsible for the demise of this lodge and the dramatic loss of membership.
nebraska is down 77% from 1985. and that was as of 2014. Down to 7,000 from 32,000. HUGE drop that can only be attributed to leadership (or lack of).
"We at the Marysville Elks Lodge, along with the help of 168 volunteers, the companies and individuals that donated were able to serve 660 meals to the needy and homebound of the Yuba-Sutter area. This number includes 180-plus meals delivered by the Marysville Kiwanis Club. Space does not permit us to list all the volunteers, so once again thank you so very much."
PAW PAW - The Paw Paw Elks Lodge 2511 will hold a free youth archery shoot, Saturday, June 6, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the lodge, 41816 N. M-40.
Registration begins at 9:30 a.m. Bows and targets will be provided. From 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., an all-you-can-eat wild game luncheon will be served.
PASADENA - For the past century, men have been running things at Pasadena's Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks.
That all changed Tuesday night with the installation of Exalted Ruler Virginia Quintero, the first woman in Lodge #672 to reach the top job.
"I finally made it there," Quintero said before the ceremony and presentation of her jewels of office - "and the gavel, of course."
"I'm very excited, very happy ... and my family's all excited," the 63-year-old nurse said of her elevation to Exalted Ruler. "I don't think they'll treat me differently - but I hope they might," she joked.
